MIAMI, United States - The US state of Georgia became the 24th US state to legalize medical marijuana on Thursday, underscoring the increasing acceptance of the drug across America despite remaining an illegal substance under federal law.

Governor Nathan Deal said in a statement the law would bring relief to patients suffering unnecessary pain because of an inability to obtain the drug legally and those who had to travel to get it.

"For the families enduring separation and patients suffering pain, the wait is finally over," Deal said after signing the legislation into law following its approval last month by state legislators.

The Georgia law decriminalizes marijuana possession in oil form used to alleviate suffering from diseases and conditions such as Parkinson's, cancer, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.

Unfortunately, I live here & I am trapped due to family (in laws) & I suffer from severe neuropathic pain down my left side & in my privates from a spinal cord injury & the new law does not cover me. I used to be on high doses of Oxycontin but i managed to ween myself off after 10yrs & started smoking cheap crap & friend gets for me but it scares me that one day he or I will get busted...I am in no shape to be put in jail. Can't walk & in lots of pain & I am on other meds for other issues related to my spinal cord injury plus I have medical devices implanted in me that need monitoring it would be a nightmare!

Plus, it is BS the oil is only 5% THC. It is good for the kids who suffer seizures & it might help some but for most it won't do much...At least the feed back I am getting from those at the spinal rehab hospital where I go in Atlanta who have had experience with oils tell me.
