Survey: Nearly 9 in 10 US adults now have health insurance

Source: Yahoo! News / AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Underlining a change across the nation, nearly 9 out of 10 adults now say they have health insurance, according to an extensive survey released Monday.

As recently as 2013, slightly more than 8 out of 10 had coverage.

Whether the new number from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index turns out to be a high-water mark for President Barack Obama's health care law, or a milestone on the path toward his goal of getting virtually all U.S. residents covered, remains to be seen.

The law's future is still up in the air, and will turn on factors ranging from an upcoming Supreme Court decision on consumer subsidies to actions by Republican leaders in states opposed to Medicaid expansion.

Healthy people only seeing a doctor (walk in clinics, emergency care facilities, ER) when they get sick? Basically, this article is saying that despite having insurance they still don't have "their own" new personal care doctor. Health insurance status has changed but not their behavior patterns.

So why aren't they increasing doctors offices for that alone? They don't go went they aren't sick. Health insurance doesn't change that aspect.

There are a lot of reasons folks might not go to the doctor for "free care," including weasel words such as "may." Here's another reason,

9 in 10 adults continue to spend hours trying to figure out lowest cost they can manage while they pray they don't get sick
9 in 10 adults continue to spend hours trying to figure out the paperwork the vampire profiteers proliferate
9 in 10 adults who require expensive care will continue to have to fight the vampire profiteers to make them pay
9 in 10 adults will be at risk of financial ruin if they do get really sick due to high co-pays and/or out of network providers and/or whever

9 in 10 progressives/liberals/whatever will continue to believe that somehow giving the vampire profiteers zillion$ for their war chests will lead to prying their claws off health care and achieving a civilized system that doesn't have different levels of care for "Bronze" and "Platinum" people

Bronze people .... vs Platinum people ..... that anyone who calls themselves a progressive - and that my Sisters and Brothers in Labor - ever supported this makes me despair for all of us.

Plato's "ideal" society, which has been used as a model for fascist states all over the world.

The citizens are presented with the “myth of metals.” According to this myth, each citizen is born with one of three kinds of soul: gold, silver or bronze. As you might expect, the citizen’s worth and function in the city is determined by what kind of soul s/he possesses. The myth of metals is created to promote strict class separation and is an attempt to eliminate factionalism.
