Halliburton objects to Gulf spill settlement
Harry R. Weber, Associated Press, New Orleans, the United States | Wed, 04/25/2012 12:29 PM

Cement contractor Halliburton is objecting to a proposed US$7.8 billion settlement between British Petroleum (BP) and a plaintiffs group representing more than 100,000 victims of the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Halliburton said in a filing in federal court in New Orleans late Tuesday the settlement improperly seeks to assign certain claims that BP has made against Halliburton to the Plaintiffs Steering Committee.

The Houston-based company says allowing the settlement to be approved under those conditions would affect its ability to independently settle with the PSC or individual plaintiffs.

Halliburton also asserts it can't be made to contribute to payments BP makes to the plaintiffs without a legal obligation to do so.

5. Halliburton might put out a no bid contract on you...

if you make them angry.

"Lets raise taxes on Social Security or Medicare, to pay Halliburton's share of any disaster relief or legal fees." Will be one of the first things on the Mitt list. No Bid Halliburton and Cheney will be right back in the catbird's, seat if Mittens gets a shot at the White House.

7. This "settlement" does not address all claims and designed to screw most victims.

BP claims to have settled all claims! That is bull shit! They have settled 20% only. Those victims were the desparate ones who took $5k for the loss of their oyster fishing (example of a group of victims) for life b/c BP ignored the law that required them to pay losses quarterly. If they had done that, these victims would not have taken their low ball offer to feed their families.
