ALEC Says It Plans To Craft Legislation To Take Down State Renewable Energy Targets
Source: ThinkProgress
Two leading conservative political organizations say they are stepping up coordinated efforts to repeal state-level renewable energy targets. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) — a “stealth business lobbyist” that works with corporate interests to help them write and implement “model” legislation — says it may soon start crafting laws designed to kill or weaken state targets for renewable electricity, heating and fuels. ALEC has come under fire in recent weeks for its support of voter ID laws and the controversial Stand-Your-Ground law that opponents blame for the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. After progressive groups began an aggressive campaign to educate the public about ALEC, 13 companies have since pulled their membership from the organization. Last July, Bloomberg News acquired tax documents showing that Koch Industries, Exxon Mobil and other energy companies paid membership fees to ALEC in order to help write legislation repealing carbon pollution reduction programs in states around country. 2. It's tragic that the U.S. can no longer be a good world citizen because...
|
...of a sociopathic pact between the Republican party and corporations. History will look back at these days as the dark, sick times they are.

6. Agreed. Who will be writing that history is up to us and it will take hard work.
|
They're already re-writing history to fit their corporate model of life, and privatizing schools to make sure no one learns differently. We're on the cusp, here.

11. I must admit that lately I feel pretty depressed about where we are...
|
They've infiltrated so many areas, beginning way back in the 70s - seems too late to change it all now, though of course I'm hoping for an awakening in the nick of time. Perhaps social media can make the difference.

7. Always makes me wonder about those reptilitan conspiracy stories. Are they human, or not?

If they are human, we're in big trouble.
Because they are us. |

9. Engineering a shift of wealth
|
Eliminate advances in alternative energy.
Increase profits for existing dirty power providers. Increase profits for the coal and gas suppliers. Increase health problems and thereby increase health costs to consumers, which increases profits for the medical industry. Quite the scheme. Take from the people, give to the corporations. Rich get richer, on the backs of the consumers. |

12. Send a Message ...... 99% dial it down 73%
|
Last edited Tue Apr 24, 2012, 05:27 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I have electric heat, electric hot water. I've been experimenting. I turned off the heat, or at least down to 57.
I turned off the hot water, except when I want some. I heat a batch as needed. Already my electric usage is down 73%! Down to $74 a month I'm planning on turning off the fridge this summer because I have a freezer. Why use 2 in hot weather? If we all dial it down, the 99% can send a message Anyone willing to join the experiment? |

I thought CA was the only one. And an effort to repeal it through initiative failed miserably.

|
It doesn't matter if your a democrat, republican, independent, socialist, libertarian or whatever. We all need to realize we are in the same boat and WE'RE the ones sinking. We have to come together and fight them. That's when we will truly demonstrate our power as the 99%, when we stop separating ourselves.

17. Why do right winger hate
|
nature? Y'think, since God gave mankind brains for learning, sight to view the beauties of the world, smell, and touch, ears to hear wonderful sounds, you would think these jerks would want to keep the World safe and protect it. I'm pretty sure God would approve in the protection and preservation of the earth, but again, we are dealing with "pyscho" paths whos only purpose in life is for profit now, f**k the future.

are they an invading alien species from another galaxy who are undermining the Earth so they can build a space super highway through this solar system without interference from Earthlings?

19. In their world view ....
|
from the top of society, where they have arrived due to the blessings of God and Darwinian Competition, it is not their world TOO, it is simply their world, and they can dictate to the rest of us to line their pockets. That's the way God made it, in their minds.

20. The way one house trains a puppy is to give them a small space to live in --
|
say playpen size and take it outside to do his business often, praising the puppy lavishly and giving him a treat when he does. This method works because as long as the puppy is in the small space, it will be easier to house train because even puppies will not foul their homes if they have any choice about it.
These guys insisting on destroying alternative, non-polluting, renewable energies in favor of fossil fuels are fouling their own homes. That shows less intelligence than a toddler doggie. |
