Police officer wounded, suspect killed in Boston shootout

BOSTON (AP) — A suspect in a motor vehicle stop opened fire on police on Friday evening and seriously wounded an officer before being killed by other officers at the scene, authorities said. An apparent bystander also was shot.

The wounded officer was shot just below his right eye and was in critical condition in an induced coma fighting for his life at a hospital, police Commissioner William Evans said.

Other officers returned fire and killed the suspect at the scene, Evans said. A woman at the scene suffered a flesh wound to her right arm and was in good spirits, and three other officers were taken to a hospital with stress-related problems, he said.

The names of the officers, the suspect and the wounded woman weren't immediately released.

In Fond Du Lac, a guy did that, robbed at least 2 banks and killed a civilian before he shot and killed a state cop but the other cops returned fire and killed the white supremacist.

I wonder what the stress-related medical crises were that required three other cops go to the hospital too. Chest pain makes sense, but 3 is a bit too coincidental.

9. Most departments have a policy for police involved in shootings to get a check up.

It allows time to elapse from the shooting for the officer to calm down before they get interviewed. This is different than how a regular citizen would be treated - they get dragged right into interrogation.

I wonder why he was so desperate to get away. Sometimes people turn a simple traffic stop into something more serious (or even deadly) by running or fighting with the officer.
