House GOP to Hillary Clinton: Turn over the server

03/20/15 02:21 PM—Updated 03/20/15 03:46 PM

By Alex Seitz-Wald

....................

The House Committee investigating the Benghazi terror attacks formally requested the all-but-declared presidential candidate to turn over her private email server to a third party in a letter to her lawyer Friday.

...............

The request is voluntary, but could set up a legal confrontation between House Republicans and Clinton if she does not comply. At a press conference at the United Nations last week, Clinton said unequivocally: “The server will remain private.”

Republicans likely have the authority to legally compel Clinton to turn over her server, but it would be unprecedented and might require a new vote before the entire House of Representatives.

When Democrats controlled Congress and investigated George W. Bush White House adviser Karl Rove’s use of a non-governmental email server, they did not force the turning over of the server. ..............

She has to comply. I would bet if it is turned over to a third party the results would not find anything new on Benghazi. Just more crap.

The Rove thing was over their illegal firing of attorneys who refused to do political favors for the Republicans - ie announce investigations of legislators up for office. One interesting tidbit was that Chris Christie, then one of the AG, did announce an investigation of Menendez, which evaporated after the election.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/16/rove.documents/

The question is would there be a party line vote in the House making this pretty unprecedented demand? At that point, will it be a resolution of the House and is there a means to enforce it? I suspect it has no teeth, or the House might well have gone after Rove -- rather than just Gonzales.

One needs to go to Rachel Maddow.

The second needs to go to a trusted liberal print journalist.

The third needs to go to a liberal member of the House of Representatives - Alan Grayson would be good.

And the fourth needs to go to Elizabeth Warren.

If Hillary hands the server over to a "third party" acceptable to the House GOP without a few "insurance" backups, by the time they're done with it that thing will not only "prove" Obama and Hillary were responsible for Benghazi, they'll be responsible for the Bay of Pigs incident, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the Battle of Osan, the Battle of Kasserine Pass, the Battle of the Somme, and the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

in an official capacity.

Yes, this is a bogus request fueled by politics.

And HRC was arrogant enough to avoid using the .gov mail servers and to think this wouldn't come back on her somehow.

At this point in time, a neutral third party must have a look at that server to deter the GOP from private correspondences but to also verify that any and all official emails have been accounted for & turned over for archiving.

That is the only way to resolve this issue and move on.

If she wants it to stop she should turn the damn thing over.

Then she should sit down with some unpaid advisors and puzzle over what would be best for the country.

And then announce that she would prefer not to run.

I suppose we could just call it bad judgment and be done with it.

Still, we need to choose someone else.

Hillary's chances are compromised, broken.
