Letter asks for liquor, food for Rod Blagojevich in prison

Source: 9News.com

ENGLEWOOD - Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants restaurant food and liquor delivered to him in prison, according to what is likely a hoax or a scam letter sent to the Liquor Barn store.

The letter is signed by a Perry Blagojevich, who claims to be a cousin of the locked-up former governor. It's asking Liquor Barn to make specific liquor deliveries to Rod Blagojevich.

"My cousin, Rod Blagojevich, is incarcerated at the nearby Federal Prison ...," the letter begins.

"If you are interested in supplying him with his liquor I will have our banister send you the contract followed by sending a deposit for the initial order," the letter says.

Well, that will never happen.

Might as well get used to the taste of pruno if you are going to need alcohol for the next few years in our state, Rod.

2. Why anyone might think this ISN'T a scam is beyond me...

First, the letter didn't ask for haircare products. We're talking about Blago here, right? He and Callista Gingrich shop at the same store for that stuff--and it's usually Sherwin-Williams.

And second, look at who's going to pay the bill: "I will have our banister..."

A "barrister" is a lawyer, although the only people who call them that would like to have your bank account number. Certainly no American uses that term--we say "attorney," "lawyer" or maybe "counselor."
A "banister" is a handrail.

4. When I was a kid in Portland,

we had a bannister on the staircase to the upstairs. It was fun to slide down...drove Mom crazy, especially the time my younger sister fell off!

I have a handrail now, on the stairs leading to the basement.

Same thing, huge difference!

11. Sounds like some nitwit copied some of the verbiage from a Nigerian scammer email!

I think he means "barrister" not "banister"--or maybe that's how you say barrister with a snoot full!

The scammer certainly has brass 'uns! He went to a lot of trouble, even typing the stupid letter.

12. Did you read anything beyond the Headline?

what is likely a hoax or a scam letter sent to the Liquor Barn store

Maybe try reading the stuff you copy and paste next time. At least the first sentence.
