VP Biden's plane hits birds upon landing in California

Source: CNN

Air Force Two, a modified Boeing 757 airplane carrying Vice President Joe Biden, was involved in a “bird strike” while landing in Santa Barbara, CA on Thursday evening, an Air Force spokesman confirmed to CNN.

“The plane landed safely as a precautionary measure and is currently being inspected to assess if there is any damage,” said Lieutenant Gregg Johnson, a public affairs officer for the Air Force’s 89th Airlift Wing – the unit responsible for managing presidential air travel.

Lt. Johnson assured CNN that the strike did not cause an emergency landing and that all passengers, including the vice president, were safe at all times.

“The Vice President left Santa Barbara this afternoon as scheduled, aboard an alternate U.S. Air Force aircraft,” a spokesperson in the Office of the Vice President said, confirming the bird strike.

1. Wonder if it was one of those "pigeons" Thom Hartmann refers to occasionally?

18. went to the link

I wonder if there is another way to deal with the geese instead of killing them. Up here we have a small local airport that has been having issues with turkeys on the runway. Instead of killing them though they're talking about trapping and relocating the birds and putting up a higher fence. Of course there is a huge difference between a turkey and a goose in terms of how high they fly, but
I hope they can come up with a different solution.

8. "The plane landed safely as a precautionary measure"

"Air Force Two, a modified Boeing 757 airplane carrying Vice President Joe Biden, was involved in a “bird strike” while landing in Santa Barbara"

They were already landing, but once they hit some birds the landing became a "precautionary measure".

Is this some new version of English that I haven't encountered before?

11. I think the author put the word 'AND' in the wrong place

In the OP it says:

“The plane landed safely as a precautionary measure and is currently being inspected to assess if there is any damage,”

I think it should read:

“The plane landed safely AND as a precautionary measure and is currently being inspected to assess if there is any damage,”

13. You can't blame the passenger, but I wonder if during the B*** presidency

Air Force Two carrying Darth Cheney hit birds. This thread would probably take longer to load on my computer (and back in the 2000s, my computer couldn't handle as much HTML space).
