Colorado Springs NAACP office not target of January bombing, feds say

Source: Denver Post

A Colorado Springs man has been arrested in connection with an explosion last month near an NAACP office.

Thaddeus Murphy, 44, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of arson and being a felon in possession of firearms, according to a U.S. Justice Department news release Friday. He is scheduled to be in federal court in Denver on Friday afternoon.

Murphy allegedly ignited a road flare and pipe bomb near a container of gasoline on Jan. 6 in the 600 block of El Paso Street, according to investigators.

Initially, federal and local investigators keyed in on a NAACP office in the building as the target, but the civil rights organization was not the target, according to the release.
