Elad has programmed a major upgrade to the Latest pageLast edited Thu Dec 8, 2011, 11:41 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Previously, all threads from all forums and groups were appearing on the Latest page. This was obviously cluttering things up significantly and people were noting that it was making the Latest page less useful. We agree.
Today, Elad was able to make some significant improvements to the filtering options on the Latest page which will give everyone a lot more control over what is displayed there. (Please note that we have NOT programmed the ability to filter individual forums or groups from the page yet, but we do hope to do that in the future.) Improvements to the Latest page The first thing to notice is that all forums and groups have been sorted into two categories: political, and non-political. The center drop-down box at the top of the Latest page (Relevance) now allows you to select which kind of threads you want to see on the Latest page. You can choose "All" if you want to see political and non-political mixed together. Second, the drop-down box for the type of threads you are viewing has been removed. You should now use the buttons to decide whether you want to see Latest, Most Discussed, Most Rec'd, or Last Replied. The default settings for this page are: Latest threads from all political and non-political forums and groups from the past 24 hours. However, using different combinations of buttons and drop-down menus you can now customize the page in a variety of different ways. For example: Latest threads from political forums only over the past 48 hours Most discussed threads from all non-political forums and groups from the past week Most recommended threads from political groups only over the past month Last replied to threads from both poltical and non-political forums and groups (but not places) over the past 3 hours Those are just a few of the combinations you can select. Feel free to play with it and see what combinations you find interesting or useful. (Do bear in mind though that while the options you select in the "Select forums & groups" and "Relevance" drop-downs will save when you leave the page, the "Started within" drop-down and the button will return to their defaults of "24 hours" and "Latest" respectively.) Currently, I have mine set to show Latest threads from political forums and groups (but not places) over the past 24 hours. Then I can toggle between political and non-political to see "serious DU" and "fun DU".

Last edited Fri Dec 9, 2011, 01:22 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2) I'd say this is about as good a website as one can create. Congrats, you guys.
OK, I think I spoke too soon. The real functionality some of us miss is "most recommended threads" with respect to time. Sorted in the same sequence as when they were originally posted. That's it! I'm only on my first latte. And I'm troubleshooting a problem with the espresso electronics. Most recommended threads sorted in the sequence in time in which they were originally posted. What this does is it gives us the ability to pick up the forum where we left off without missing anything. |

9. Would it be possible to have a filter that sorts the latest/greatest threads by time
|
as the left hand side of the GP does now? These are only threads that 5 or more DU'ers recommend and are placed in chronological order once they hit 5 recs.
The new filters help, but still find myself looking at the same thread titles over and over again. Thanks! Greatest Discussion Threads Sorted by Time |

14. Question on Latest/Greatest
|
When you click on a post on with the "Greatest" picked how do you go back to the "Greatest" view instead of the default latest view? Does that make sense? I must be missing something easy.
