Bachmann ties Ellison to Muslim Brotherhood

This is after the repubs have been attacking her for going after Clinton's aide Huma Abedin!
---------

Shrugging off criticism from GOP leaders in Congress, Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann broadened her allegations Thursday of Islamic infiltration in the U.S. government, accusing Democrat Keith Ellison of associations with the Muslim Brotherhood.

"He has a long record of being associated with [the Council on American–Islamic Relations] and with the Muslim Brotherhood," Bachmann told right-wing radio and TV show host Glenn Beck.

Ellison, whose Minnesota congressional district borders Bachmann’s, told the Huffington Post that Bachmann’s accusations are totally false. "I am not now, nor have I ever been, associated with the Muslim Brotherhood," he said, echoing the McCarthy-era government loyalty oath.

The exchange came a day after Bachmann was denounced on the Senate floor by Ariz. Sen. John McCain. Earlier Thursday, House Speaker John Boehner termed Bachmann’s allegations “dangerous.”

Both Republican leaders were reacting to Bachmann’s requests for investigations into Muslim Brotherhood “influence operations” in several federal agencies. She specifically named State Department official Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

But Bachmann is really batshit crazy to borrow someone else's phrase. Most rightwingers are ignorant morons who swallow anything they hear on talk radio, but she's really mentally out to lunch.

It is a tough standard, but it can be done.

The constitutional guarantees require, we think, a federal rule that prohibits a public official from recovering damages for a defamatory falsehood relating to his official conduct unless he proves that the statement was made 280*280 with "actual malice"—that is, with knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not. Nothing new has happened with the USA and the Islamic world, and Obama isn't itching to wipe Iran off the face of the Earth. These wack jobs want to force the Second Coming like Ahmadinejad and the Christofascists here with a global nuclear holocaust to cleanse the planet of unbelievers.

If not that because of Bachmann's Dominionist views, it is because Obama is hurting Romney with Bain. Why was Rush going nuts this week? Because of Bain.

Why are the rest of them inflaming the wingnuts? Because some of the wing nuts were realizing that Romney/Bain was screwing them.

Then we have an outbreak of killings at the same movie that Rush and the rest have been going after as attacking Romney and Bain? Is it all just a coincidence that O'Reilly is blaming the parents of the children killed for their deaths?

If this wasn't real life, you couldn't make up a more disgusting horror flick.

clip; I never get tired of it. It shows what just one courageous person with balls, unafraid to finally stand up to what everyone else knows is ridiculous but is too afraid to say it, can really do. Had it not been for Welch, God alone knows how much more damage and ruining of lives McCarthy would have wrought. Funny thing is, Welch's action turned the tide, as it gave everyone else the courage to start saying the same things and finally McCarthy was stopped. Welch is a hero as far as I'm concerned, especially since he well knew that there was a very real possibility of serious repercussions for him.

I cannot believe that we are starting to see the same shit, sixty years later, in 2012, for God's sake. We need to stop this NOW before it gets any further and the witchhunt ball really gets rolling.

While St. Cloud in the northwest corner of the 6th is relatively moderate, the northern crybaby suburbs (apologies to those DUers who live there) of the Twin Cities are the base of Michelle's support. They complain about taxes, then complain that their emergency services aren't up to par, then complain about all the "undesirables" that are moving north (non-white people) and they sycophantically vote for whomever is in the (R) column on the ballot because the DFL (Democrat-Farmer-Labor party) is a bunch of communists.

No kidding. They actually believe this. This view is regularly enforced by Katherine Kersten, right-wing hack columnist for the Star Tribune.

That's Anoka. That's Stillwater. And that's why Bachmann wins elections. The people up there believe her, too. They'll eat this up.

I tend to avoid straying from I-94 when I go up there. I have a few friends in St. Cloud, still. They so want to move to the Cities.

Is that they never have abandon the politics of Joseph McCarthy. Not then and not now. Think not, consider this.

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

That was and has been mainstream thinking in the Republican Party for at least the last 70 years. The father of the Southern Strategy was not Richard Nixon, but Barry Goldwater. He voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act and carried only Arizona and the old South in 1964. Before Goldwater we had Joseph McCarthy.

Oh, and where does Mitt Romney stand on all of the Muslim Brotherhood hate talk coming from Bachmann. His silence is deafening. Does that mean he agrees with her?
