Team USA's outsourced uniforms prompt calls for clothing 'Made in America.'

With all the bad news about the economy, it was nice to see good news for a change--and on ABC News no less. Here's a report (the video runs about 3 minutes) that talks about how 500,000 jobs have come back since 2010, particularly in clothing. 75% of Brooks Brothers suits are now made in the U.S.

2. That's because vendors realize there is a niche market for "Made in America" items/clothes.

Any good capitalist seeking to specialize or differentiate their product from others will, sooner or later, exploit the opening.

5. This is not new...

back in the late 80's I was selling lighting equipment to clothing manufacturers in the Garment District in NYC. What looked like 20 story office buildings on 5th Ave. between 23rd and 34th streets were often as not fabric and clothes showrooms and many of them made the clothes on site. I asked why manufacturing was done here (by almost universally Hispanic women, btw) and they told me what the people in the video said-- turnaround and quality control made it necessary to make the stuff here. Fashion moves fast, and if it takes 3 weeks to 2 months to get the stuff from China, you just blew a season if the colors were off, and if you had a hot seller reorders were impossible.

Basic jeans, undershirts some shirts and skirts... stuff that you can order by the container and Target can sell all year, or at least for a half year, gets made overseas. And, yeah, the cheap lines of top designers.
