Rommey released 20 years of tax returns to McCain when he was vetted for VP in 2008 so some of the McCain team would know what they contain.
He wasn't chosen for VP and that tax information may have been a factor.
I wonder if someone defected and informed Obama as to what's in those returns.

Give credit where credit is due. It's a brilliant re-election campaign!

(36,286 posts)1. Romney paid little or no taxes.
2. There's info in there about Romney hiding money overseas.
3. Romney is the poster child for Bush tax cuts.
4. Romney paid less than the average family taking home say, $100,000 before taxes. Not a lower percentage, less money!
Here's what's not in those returns:
Romney paying a significant portion of his income to taxes, social security and Medicare!

(82 posts)Why don't they just release the info and get rid of Rmoney for once and for all?
This is WAR for the very survival of this country!

They're doing fantastic with raising questions. Romney has already lost the election and everyone knows it.
But don't forget to vote!!

(82 posts)If Rmoney has done something illegal, immoral or even boarderline it would be up to the administration to bring forth proof of such to protect this country from further harm by these crooks form the repug party.
They've already hinted at a felony and the latest Obama ads are strongly suggesting improprieties, they must know something.
President Obama is a lawyer and a good attorney never asks a question that he doesn't already know the answer to.

There's no law requiring RMoney to release his tax returns, only 50 years of conventional practice, including his own father George who advocated for full release back in the 60s.

(26,219 posts)That was the window that people could declare their illegal offshore tax havens, pay a fraction of what they would have owed and pay no penalty - as long as they fessed up and reported them.
McCain would have had taxes through 2007 showing every loophole on the books being exploited (legally).
2008 and 2009 are the two that would expose the depth of the unreported offshore holdings. All completely "legal" - but ethical quicksand.
Those 2 returns will never see the light of day.
