6. Senator Reid wants them to dump them

paraphrasing - "they would be better off wearing t-shirts with USA painted on them"

18. Well, Ralph Lauren is a longtime Bushie. His son also recently married Lauren Bush.

Wanna bet Prescott Bush made a hugely profitable deal with Chinese clothing industrialists for Ralph many years ago when Prescott was head of the US-China Chamber of Commerce?

7. I'm thinking a lot of people in these parts don't find this funny at all..

myself included..selling out US workers has been a very bipartisan effort..to this very day...it is tragic.

8. This is DISGRACEFUL, there must be an American company here that could've made the uniforms. nt

11. I'd been wondering about that.

When I saw they were a Ralph Lauren design (with the "Polo" logo prominently displayed, naturally...), I was wondering where they'd actually be made. It's not as if a corporation like that has US factories any more. Might actually not be able to extract every penny of profit that way...

12. Ralph Lauren - Longtime Bush man, especially in China. Lauren Bush married Lauren's son.

I'm sure Ralph Lauren has made many millions in profits because of his Bush connections in China - slave wages can do that for America's privileged elite.

15. We no longer have a textile industry here. Blame NAFTA.

The last time I went shopping for a new suit I asked the salesman if there was anything manufactured in America. He burst out laughing before he could answer, and he was working on commission.

I'm disgusted by this outsourcing but not surprised by it, not one little bit.

21. Not true -- there are plenty of companies who could have done this

30+ that make and finish just performance fabric, many more who can make and finish "regular" fabric. They would have loved to have made this. Well-known performance socks are still made in the US. The US textile industry has been gutted, but is still here.

Canadian uniforms are made by ROOTS in Canadian mills, and they have a hell of a lot fewer mills and finishers than we do.

I live in Textile Country, and one of my best friend's family still owns a US-based textile company. She is the one who gave me the info used in my post.

The uniforms should be DUMPED. I agree with Reid, which is a red-letter day.
