Do any states have a progressive form of property tax calculation?

Something like a families main residence valued below half a million dollars is either exempt or pays very little property taxes but as the values increase those make up for the lower valued homes?

Any state have such a thing. All the rest of my taxes are done progressively but this one is not. The more I made on my paycheck the higher the tax bracket I went in to and the more that was withheld from my check.

But property taxes in Illinois aren't done that way.

You would think that the people who can afford multi-million dollar houses would be taxed using some type of bracket system so those homes would be taxed at a higher rate than a $150,000 house to make this more progressive.

Just seems fairer.

Thats a reasonable method of making property taxes progressive. Florida currently has a 50K exemption.
