(20,441 posts)They preach peace to the world, yet here they are selling weapons to anybody with a grudge and the means to carry it out. Entire nations have been enslaved to dictators and autocrats simply because they were willing to play ball with one or several of the major world powers in the world, especially the United States, France, and Great Britain. The other two are well versed as far as imperial colonialism, but it's the United States that refined all of this to a fine art.
The United States is probably the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today. Its weapons are featured in many active conflict zones throughout Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. Any dictator or corrupt president who aligns himself with business interests in the United States is given assault rifles, artillery guns, exportable tanks, and warplanes like candy. Hosni Mubarak was a great example. So was Saddam Hussein. Hell, the United States will even help you build a biochemical weapons program. Just ask the Kurds in northern Iraq who supplied botulism and anthrax spores in the 1980s. Our M16s even found their way into the hands of child soldiers and mass murderers in the Congo during the blood diamond wars. The United States even armed the Phalangist and Druze militias fighting in the bloody Lebanese Civil War that saw the "Paris of the Middle East" Beirut reduced to rubble and ruin.
War is truly a profitable business enterprise.
