Wayne and Dubya

My husband and I grew up with Wayne. We have known him since he was in kindergarten. We have not seen him in a couple of years, because he retired to California. He came back for a visit, and told us a story that he told at his fiftieth high school class reunion. BTW, Wayne is a great raconteur.

Wayne recounted to his fellow reunion attendees that he was running full tilt through the O'Hare Airport terminal, trying not to miss his flight. He was sort of aware that George H. W. Bush and his entourage were around. Papa Bush was campaigning for reelection. Wayne ran into a man at full speed. They hit head on, knocking each other over. They brushed each other off, apologized, and went their separate ways.

Wayne concluded his story by saying, "It turned out that the person I ran into was Dubya. And that is the story of the time I knocked Dubya on his ass."

What surprised Wayne was the audience reaction. Everyone, including the wait staff and bartenders, were clapping and cheering loudly. This event took place in the western suburbs of Chicago. Wayne was surprised at the Dubya hate.

I am glad that a friend of mine knocked Dubya on his ass. I guess lots of other people are glad, too.

I guess Wayne didn't think about it at the time. Also, someone had to tell him who he knocked down. Wayne had no idea while it was happening.
