Jesus told his disciples over and over again to love one another and do good in the world in many many ways. HE was a good example of living your life to help others and His example has been a help in my life.

There IS a lot of other stuff in the Bible that is used to oppress people and nations and justify horrific acts, so I will agree with you in part that taking Bibles away from people with hate in their hearts isn't a major injustice. Keeps them from using it to beat people over the head, which wasn't something ever recommended...

In fact, if I remember correctly... Jesus said something to the effect of "Remove the log out of your own eye before worrying about the speck in your neighbor's eye." So if the rethugs really understood it (the Bible) they would behave like decent humans and respect others as a way to lead them on a path of behaving in a "Christ-like or Christian" manner.
