When it comes to promoting a "green car," there's no better celebrity to have in your corner than Leonardo DiCaprio. Now Fisker Automotive has him -- both as a buyer of the Karma plug-in hybrid luxury car and as an investor.
Titanic star DiCaprio made an impact nearly a decade ago when he shunned the usual trappings of the celebrity car world -- BMWs, Cadillac Escalades or other luxury barges -- in favor of a humble Toyota Prius. The Prius hybrid, from a dealership in Santa Monica, Calif., symbolized care for the planet.
Ever since, automakers have looked to his stamp of approval. As such, DiCaprio and Fisker issued a joint announcement this week saying they are going to work together to promote the cause of global sustainability.
"My foundation supports efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants," says DiCaprio in a statement. "I am delighted to be working with Fisker Automotive to promote this shared vision."

52 MPGe isn't bad, but it's not great either. It sacrifices a lot of MPG to get the extra horsepower. Now, the Tesla S, THAT thing is a work of art and performance.
