http://ijr.com/2017/03/814687-trumps-diplomat/Lots of good info in this article about Tillerson's "approach" to diplomacy. This nugget is way down.
I didnt want this job. I didnt seek this job. He paused to let that sink in.
A beat or two passed before an aide piped up to ask him why he said yes.
My wife told me Im supposed to do this.
After watching the contortions of my face as I tried to figure out what to say next, he humbly explained that he had never met the president before the election. As president-elect, Trump wanted to have a conversation with Tillerson about the world given what he gleaned from the complex global issues he dealt with as CEO of Exxon Mobil.
When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of state, I was stunned.
When Tillerson got home and told his wife, Renda St. Clair, she shook her finger in his face and said, I told you Gods not through with you.

(58,785 posts)who confuse their profiteering with serving god's will are disgusting, and at that level scary.
I do think we still do not know just how small, limited a man Tillerson may be OR what ability and character he might have to rise to serve his nation.
Not an admirer, don't expect to be impressed, afraid will be enraged, but just don't know.

(5,730 posts)How would you like a job being DTs stooge to the world, when the whole world knows he has no authority. He is used to running the 1st or 2nd largest company in the world. He looks like he hates it. Anyone would.
Everyone knows the real Sec of State now is Kushner.

Seriously, he is supposed to work out complex diplomatic solutions by eliciting God's help through his wife? Does he have a magic 8 ball to use on less serious matters?

I'm wondering if he also hates the degree of travel required by this job.
But more than anything, I think he's ready to distance himself from the people likely to be thrown into prison or at least disgraced.

(111,249 posts)and hope by chance he manages to find one from Central Casting who knows what the job is and intends to do it without having to cozy up to the Russians.
Hint, Buddy, the government is not a corporation and can't be run like one, no matter what your boss thinks. And Renda is too god addled to give anyone sound advice, by the looks of it.

(1,685 posts)I only think he took it to get those sanctions gone and let the Exxon deal go through. He's rich enough though. I don't understand these people. They are reptiles.
Tillerson, resign. Go to the beach. Have some fun. Don't pretend to be Secretary of State as you suck at it. And this country could use a Secretary of State.
I hate nearly everyone of these appointments. They are terrible.

Let's not pay attention to your total lack of interest in a job offered by someone you had never met.
No, no! Let your wife's finger-shaking invocation of Teh Duhvine Plannnn be the deciding factor.
You ignorant, self-important BUFFOON.

McPike was said to have been elevated to this because,of a piece she had recently done on the same right-wing media platform in which she pretty much uncritically passed along the glowing image that Tillersons p.r. spokesman wanted to propagate. I would keep this in mind in reading what she says about Tillerson or any other subject.
