Trump can't decide if it is a $100 or 100% import tax on Harley Davidson motorcycles

He keeps saying both.

At his rally in Kentucky.

2. Harley parts are made overseas but the motorcycles are assembled here.

So is he advocating on import taxes on the parts, or what?

6. So it's supposed to be an export tax?

That would make Harleys more expensive for foreign buyers, who'd buy fewer of them as a result. Sounds kind of stupid to me. But then, it's Trump...

9. Probably like the way Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Volkswagen, etc are made here.

Chevy and Harley Davidson have manufacturing plants in Europe, Asia, and Australia so they only have to ship the parts instead of the whole vehicles. But this would go over the heads of the anti-globalists.

10. He already knows math - 1 billion is 10 billion in Trump money, and $100 you owe him is really $1

8. If Harley Davidsons are made in the U.S., why have an import tax on their bikes at all?

Unless it's an import tax on foreign manufactured bikes.

Back in the 70s, when H-D was in financial trouble, they got Congress to levy a pretty hefty import tax on foreign motorcycles, like Kawasaki and Honda. That way Americans would be "forced" to buy American (so much for the free market). That tariff was lifted eventually.

Why don't the deplorables realize that everything that Trump does makes their life more expensive and his friends richer?

12. They are assembled here but the parts are manufactured elsewhere.

So I don't know what Dumbass is talking about, as usual.

11. Trump is still pissed Harley Davidson balked on his planned visit

Trump trip canceled; Harley-Davidson wasn't comfortable with likely protests, per source

January 31, 2017

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump will not head to Milwaukee for a previously scheduled visit of a Harley-Davidson factory after the company decided it wasn't comfortable hosting him amid planned protests, an administration official said Tuesday.

Trump had been scheduled to tour the factory Thursday where he also planned to sign executive orders related to American manufacturing.

The visit had not been publicly announced, but White House staffers were already on the ground in Milwaukee setting up for Trump's planned visit to the factory on Thursday.

White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham confirmed Trump is not expected to go to Milwaukee on Thursday.

Harley-Davidson issued a statement Tuesday night saying they "don't have, nor did we have, a scheduled visit from the President this week at any of our facilities."

13. Sorry my language seems not too clear.

He's talking about other countries imposing an import tax on HD when they import HD motorcycles.

One sentence he says it's a $100 dollars and the next sentence he says it's 100%.

15. Highly Doubt It is 100%

Harley Davidson would probably not sell bikes overseas if the tax was 100%. As far as I know there are some Harleys that cost about $7,000 and there are some Harleys that cost more than $15,000. My math may be wrong, but I think a 100% tax on a bike would make a $7,000 cost $14,000 and make a $15,000 bike cost $30,000. Maybe Harley would sell their bikes in countries force them to double the price of their bikes, but I do not see any reason why they would do such a thing. As a result, I do not think any country would tax Harley Davidson at a 100% rate. I assume the tax rate is more around the range of 10%-30%.
