When will things get bad to the point that those currently unconconcerned can't deny things are bad?

Forgive me if I don't describe this very well, but I feel like I'm in some kind of weird place where, on one hand, holy shit look at how much damage this guy is doing to our country's institutions, image, social climate, etc., yet on the other hand, nothing concrete has really changed in my life if I just block out politics (other than that gas has gone up a few pennies).

I think most of my distress right now has come from just being someone who values our institutions, intellectualism, dignity, and you know, facts. As a woman, I also on principle am very distressed to know that so many of my neighbors are okay putting someone in office who thinks so lowly of women to the point that he brags about sexually assaulting us. However, at the end of the day, can I say he has done anything to alter the way I go about my daily life? Aside from the obnoxious political discussions I now have to avoid from Hillary-hating family and friends, not yet.

Do you think we're going to see a day when everyone and not just those of us who are so disturbed by all of what is going on for mostly cerebral reasons is hurting because of this administration? How long will it take to get there? Will it ever get there?

**I do acknowledge that life has already gotten objectively worse for the people affected by the travel ban, deportations, and increase in hate crimes and do not mean to in any way minimize their suffering. I just know that those consequences aren't enough to make most Americans feel their daily lives have been concretely impacted by this asshole.

If Trump came into their homes, tied them up, tortured them, robbed them, then set the house on fire, they would probably give him their bank details and thank him......and then say Hillary or Obama did it.

only when they or their families are adversely affected will they do anything. But just wait, eventually we shall ALL be affected by no healthcare, closed clinics and schools, higher grocery bills, poor water and air quality, banks failing, higher state property taxes, etc etc. Whether or not the Trumpsters can connect the dots is what we must help them do. We need to talk to them about kitchen table issues. That means we have to spend a little time learning the facts about issues. Are you willing to do that?

I expect a percentage to remain loyal to him until we are beyond the Trump crisis. hen he is gone they won't miss him.

Another percentage the smaller group of rabid followers will remain nasty and vicious but will be far less emboldened.

The left will grow because some of the people newly activated will continue take politics seriously.

One of the most helpful things to do now is start taking about our vision of the country especially in terms of human rights and freedoms, income security, health, the democratic process, science process and facts

The first group and the third group need the vision of who we are and that we are all part of something good, great, and worth demanding.

The second group already has a vision-a nasty hateful one and needs to be unemboldened-which happens when the rest of us insist upon who we are. and what we intend to be.

wake up. Friends and relatives suffering and dying from untreated illness might get their attention although I imagine they would still blame it on Obama.

But it won't change the impact to them. And the majority will know - they did it to themselves.

This is why you are seeing glimmers of 'Stop making excuses for them and having empathy'.

IDGAF why they voted for him. I'm sick of their 'canned' reasons when we all KNOW what motivated them. Everything comes full circle and this will too.

As truth that I don't know what the tipping point is. People buy into the false stories on their safety because it is easier to be scared than it is to not be scared. People assign outside blame for their general unhappiness because it is easier than looking inward. 45 is a person they can relate to. It's sad but it's true. And yet he doesn't give two squirts of piss for anyone but himself. Sadly, neither do most people.

We may get congress back. Maybe we win back the presidency in 2020 but this experience has uncovered some major ugly not just about our country but about the human experience.

There are some people that would wait until the gun is in their face to object, but I think there is a larger group that feel, and are encouraged to feel, that it is more expedient personally to assume that politics is just natural background behavior to which the clever adapt to accomplish their aims. That focus on the personal (rather than the civic) level of society is strongly encouraged in the U.S. popular culture, and, to my mind, is killing us.

The word idiot evidently comes from an ancient Greek word, describing a person who was overly concerned with the private aspect of life, to the detriment of the collective aspect. Right now we are ruled by real idiots, but our "smart" popular culture is encouraging that "idiocy" with virtually every gesture and word. I'm afraid it makes me fighting mad (although I always suppress it) whenever I hear someone say that they don't like politics. Political life is a responsibility.
