What is the strategy behind drip drip dripping info instead of dropping it all at once?

I keep seeing people say the IC or the "Obama people" are strategically leaking info little by little as part of some strategic plan to take him down, but what I don't get is why put the country through this hell if the incriminating info is there now? The only thing I can think of is there isn't really anything damning enough to warrant impeachment, so they're just trying to make his life miserable, bring down his favorables, and keep him as distracted from governing as possible.

Far too much information to even begin to take in. When confused, most people don't sit down and dig in to make sense of it, they turn away and want to just move on, soothing their egos with facile claims that all governments are corrupt, nothing anyone can do about it.

and they turn up leads you didn't know about before.

You also get people to deny small things on the record, prove they are liars, destroy their credibility and then nail them for the big things.

If you went in all at once with everything, some things would slip through the cracks or the story would be so unbelievable people would accept the denials rather than try to get their heads around it.

That should have been enough to get a special prosecutor, but the republicans hold every part of government and have no shame. Most of the stuff you call dripping out is just confirmation of specific parts of the Steele dossier which is already out there in a manner where each item gets a news cycle.

This way there are least a hundred million or more sets of eyeballs noticing things, putting things together and pointing them out. There are still way more clues that are sure to be found. Science already has the formula for this kind of problem that works and has been working quite well for the last half or more of this century. Observed unexplained phenomena, correlation, interrelation, association with a related synopsis. Then you come up with hypothesis, gathering clues and evidence, theory, testing and a little more testing, a trial and lastly the fact (or conviction)

Hell, this is almost as fun as anthropology

Though it may not be so much that it's being discovered crip-drip-drip as that its true significance is being revealed drip-drip-drip as the various pieces and players fall into place (some of this info's been out there for months).

I don't know that there's a grand strategy (or certainly a grand strategist in the shape of Obama or whoever) behind it, but as others upthread have observed, it's the lying denials that later get debunked that are most damning every time.

A few months ago, it may have been plausible that a legislature dominated by the triumphalist Republicans at every level - and with Trump cronies in key posts - could bury it all and successfully stall any investigations (it's still going to be an uphill task). But what may have looked like safe, plausible deniability earlier is now looking more and more like very risky blatant collusion, and the net of Republican pols it's ensnaring is widening every day. Let's hope they start to turn on each other as things heat up.

Used the word collusion as well.

It's breath-taking when you step back and think about it. We are talking about Trump campaign insiders colluding not just with Russian diplomats but with known Russian intelligence officials a type of offense for which anyone with even the lowest level security clearance would be sent off to share a jail cell with Aldrich Ames.

Where this all goes from here is anyone's guess. It may all get buried and forgotten, it may blow up and bring down the entire Trump White House. But this is precisely why our Government has counterintelligence capabilities - to protect this country against spies, traitors, and "colluders." If the Trump people get away with such blatant behavior, then, the CI people will have failed at what may be the worst CI crisis since the Soviets stole the secrets to making the atomic bomb.

Aimed at certain individuals at just the right time. Flynn, for instance - he was widely disliked and mistrusted by the IC (intelligence community), and he was "taken down" by it after just one month on the job, in a pretty masterful fashion I have to say. Then Sessions, refusing to do the right thing an recuse himself, becomes the subject of an IC leak and voila - he has now recused himself.

The leak of the Steele dossier at the start of the Trump administration is starting to look like an epic and deliberate scene-setter, a way to signal to journalists and would-be investigators that "we in the IC believe this information to be true, but we can't reveal our sources, so it's your job to independently verify this information and go for the golden ring" - er in this case the golden shower

To be sure, there have been bad episodes - indeed, VERY bad episodes - but fundamentally these are the people who do what needs to be done.

I am not in any way an insider and what I am about to say is anecdotal, but I know a few spooks. The notion I get is that there are not many extremist ideologues as they really don't fit well into the organizations. I also get a feeling that if anything the lean is slightly left. That is why the FBI released a statement that they would not prosecute Flynn for perjury. They wanted to create a false sense of security around Flynn that would encourage open contact by other suspects. They were doing catch and release.
They are tapping all of these guys.

puzzle. In which case, you might as well ask, "Why do we need investigative journalists?" since the evidence is all there and there is nothing to investigate.

The reality is that one person or agency may hold crucial piece of the puzzle without recognizing its significance and it requires journalists to stitch together the various facts into a coherent narrative. At least until a Special Prosecutor is named who has the power to issue indictments subpoena witnesses and records and fashion another compelling narrative before the courts and the judgment of history.

Second, the "drip, drip, drip" keeps the GOP/Drumpf people on the defensive until the facts can be presented in context.

GOP/Drumpf/Know-nothing Nationalists constantly on the defensive, whining about "evil Liberals" pisses off their constituency and begins to create doubt in those that aren't totally brain dead.
In fact, keeping the GOP on the defensive may difuse the disappointment of the Trumpeteers when the &quot R) after their name stands for RePutin" group ends up having to face real inquiry.
It also confuses and concerns the &quot R) after the name stands for "Randiot" fellow travelers who are pushing for drowning the government in a bathtub, so the worst of the damage they can do is mitigated while everyone with an (R) tries to figure out how much time there is on the ride they bought the ticket for, and whether or not they might face an independent investigator and/or grand jury.
