“Star Trek” actor and activist George Takei shared a tweet on Thursday that shows why the battle for equal protection for transgender people is about more than just restrooms.

And in only 11 words, this simple message shows why people who are opposed to trans rights are on the wrong side of history:

He has persevered through an enormous amount of negativity during his life. He is a real American hero IMO. I have heard his interviews about his childhood in the interment camps set up by our government. He never acts like a victim, instead a beacon of hope for anyone being persecuted.
