THIS... Is How It's Done...
Fight... Say It Right... Appeal To New Voters And The Rational... Post It On YouTube... Let It Go Viral...
Gutierrez: "Pick Out The Immigrant" Speech on Arizona Law w/ Justin Bieber + Selena Gomez Maybe the Democrats could spend a couple of nickels on their own 'think tank' that could duplicate this type of fight.

6. wtf good will that do

compared to 1200 radio stations? Seriously, do you really think that a youtube video can compete with 1200 radio stations propaganda that runs 24/7 for free? Why not hire some propeller airplanes to fly over baseball games? That's also a thoroughfare around the MSM.

7. Paradigm shift

I have come to believe very recently that the only hope for our country and others that have been completely co-opted by fascist corporatism is for a vast resistance from the ground up. We have the numbers and the technology but not the will. Yet.

8. I like how he notes Scalia's father came through Ellis Island.
|
It used to be all you had to do was get on a boat to come to America. That's how the Scalias did it. We called out for the poor, the huddled masses, yearning to breath free...or so the Statue of Liberty said. Then America pulled the welcome mat. Good thing Fat Tony was not in charge of immigration when folks like his dad were trying to come in. Not that it was easy for Italian immigrants. They were treated much like latinos are treated today, but without any civil rights laws to protect them. And yet Scalia is utterly devoid of empathy. Truly a man without a soul.

11. Yeah, I gotta love the anti-Immigrant conservatives on Ellis Island
|
Their argument is "yeah well, MY ancestors cam here perfectly legal through ellis island!"
And maybe htye did. it's really a meaningless distinction because there really was no sense of "legal" or "illegal" immigration at the time. Doesn't matter if you were a member of the "huddled masses" fleeing Central Europe to New York, or if you're like one of my ancestors, a Welsh dude who said "fuck this boat" and ditched ship in Mobile, as soon as you stood on americna soil and said "I am an American!" you were in fact American. It's even crazier 'cause back then there really was no border between US and Mexico, as far as the people living there were concerned. Sure, sure, the Mexican-American war put a border on the map, but the situation was the same - you were a citizen of whatever nation you decided to park your ass in. it was that simple. Back to Ellis island... know what the criteria for getting through ellis siland was? Real simpole. 1) One-week quarrantine, to screen for communicable diseases like TB, assorted poxes, and whatnot. 2) Write your name on a card (or have the admissions official do it for you) and pledge that you have foresworn other national alliegances and intend to be a US citizen. 3) Get harangued by partisan pamphleteers on the dock trying to register you to vote for their party. Just like that! welcome to America. If the republicans want to go back to that, fuck, I'm all for it. |
