Speaking truth against the power. In my opinion, these three "old school" media outlets have been doing a tremendous job for our Republic, exposing TREASON.
Rec if you agree please

(102,119 posts)read as much NYT as possible (can't really afford their online subscription).... So glad to see CNN make the turn back towards real reporting. Shoot, even Wolf Blitzer (who I really have never been able to stand), seems to be making the effort. And, Chris Cuomo, Jake Tapper and several others have been exceptional.

(5,730 posts)Since Repubs won't investigate, and if they do, it's a sham... Repubs investigating themselves to CYA...press is doing all of the investigation, w some fortunate leaks from intelligence. Most Repubs only want to investigate to stop leakers.
Thanks to WaPo, NYT, and CNN!!! I have been amazed
(but 6 mo b4 election even better). Still, you did decide to try and save democracy now. You are all we have. Hope it works.

(118,489 posts)do some real damage to the country but they are being exposed at every turn by those three media outlets. They have not ceded any ground to the executive. Congrats too to the Deputy attorney general and the attorney general of Washington State for their parts. Many, many people have dug deep and I wish we could all acknowledge them too.

(2,573 posts)And I think blanketly bashing them is doing exactly what Trashpot and Putin wants...undermine the press so nobody trusts them on either side. I know there are A LOT of people here at DU who will disagree with me because they love to bash the press...not me. I will criticise when necessary but I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

(65,159 posts)But they can at least compensate for it if they keep exposing this treason. I didn't know if the media was still capable of what they did during Watergate. Seems so far that they are. And Trump's bad treatment of the media does not help him.

(5,811 posts)and WAPO has definitely gone school. It reminds me of their coverage of Watergate - very thorough with high journalistic standards. I've been watching Joy Reid (mostly) followed by Rachel Maddow and Lawrence - They've had on mostly print journalists which has been great.

(81,109 posts)CNN has certainly drawn blood more than a few times. Ever since trump declared war on them and called them fake news, while refusing to call on their reporter during a news conference, it seems CNN has decided that door swings both ways. GOOD!
Don't let him bully you, MSM!!! As has been chanted at unruly and partisan GOPers during rather boisterous town hall meetings, "Do Your Job!" Yes. You, too.

(128,441 posts)the problem being that few if any of the television media and their talking heads and bloviators picked any of it up for broadcast and discussion. And unfortunately, not that many people read the newspapers (whether hardcopy or electronic) anymore. They turn on the tv or radio.
Now that the lazy tv media are using this material to help them fill their 24/7 programming (and it is apparently providing ratings), the rest of the masses are hearing about it.

(23,061 posts)I now watch CNN except on Sat. am when I watch Morning Joy. I recently subscribed to NYT for the first time ever and have bought several Newsweek's just to read Eichenwald's articles. We really need them right now with this unprecedented time of having a true traitor and criminal fraud and assaulter in charge. This is just so freaking awful and embarrassing to boot. I'm ashamed to be an American right now because of the harm that's been done to our country and the world by electing the shitgibbon.

(194 posts)That's why they have the constitutional protection they do.
But they've failed to do their jobs so often and in so many cowardly ways that they have a very long way to go before they deserve "appreciation". They are still more concerned with "access" and getting invited to all the best Washington parties than they are with the hard work of real journalism that doesn't make them friends among the people they cover.
malchickiwick
(1,474 posts)In the case of CNN, however, you're right. They normalized the orangutan, and do have to now keep up the good work they've been doing lately to make up for their disgraceful campaign coverage.
