PA School Board propose that kids wear lab coats when they disobey school dress code.Last edited Wed Jun 27, 2012, 05:13 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2012/06/susquehanna_township_students_1.html
Susquehanna Township students call prospects of wearing lab coat for dress code violations 'absurd' Kiana Jenkins once wore what she considered a hair accessory to school and was ordered by a teacher to take it off because it was a hat. Maggie Reddecliff wore a parent-approved, correct-length skirt but was criticized for violating the dress code because of a “scruffy mark.” <<<<snip>>>> An idea floated by a Susquehanna Township School Board committee Monday night — and met with mixed reviews — would require that high school and middle school dress-code violators to wear a lab coat over their clothes all day if their parents can’t bring acceptable clothing to school. School administrators said the district’s dress code — the ban on torn jeans, visible underwear and offensive slogans — isn’t a problem. Their issue is the time it takes to track down parents to bring appropriate wear to school and, if parents can’t make it, keep the violators in the library. The idea would send those students back to class, but with a lab coat covering the disputed clothing, said board member Michael Ferguson, one of the presenters

1. Why not just make the girls wear burqas? That's what the right wing really wants.

2. In no time, a lab coat would become fashionable.
|
A lab coat would be like those saggy orange overalls, the mark of a rebel!
Everyone would want one. Kids would go buy 'em, to create the appearance of being "dangerous." Before the year was out, they'd probably be the Uniform of the Day for most if not all of the school. |

5. LOL That is what I was thinking...
|
they would have lab coat day in no time at all. Or, everyone would be in the library for a lack of enough lab coats.
I would support this idea, however it doesn't look like this idea is going to be enforced by people with any common sense. Like the girl with the dress code approved skirt that someone just didn't like for some cosmetic reason. |

4. The school should just make scrubs the official school uniform.
|
Lab coat optional. Scrubs are relatively cheap. They're comfortable. They're baggy, so boys won't be staring at girls' chest areas all the time. Perfect solution. And now, scrubs are available in a wide array of colors and patterns. Both boys and girls can wear them, so it's fair all around.
