Dallas Deputy Freaks over bikers Helmet Cam, footage catches him in arrest lieLast edited Wed Jun 27, 2012, 03:38 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
summary - he pulls over a biker because he wants his helmet cam video, then thinks of a reason to arrest him. wow
Dallas Deputy Freaks over Helmet Cam Rider Chris Moore was with the group but not participating in the criminal behavior; he was filming with a helmet cam. Deputy Westbrook wanted the camera off Moore's helmet for evidence of the other bikers crimes, so he pulled him over. Fortunately for Moore, his camera was still rolling cause wouldn't you know it, Deputy Westbrook's dash cam footage "doesn't exist!" The initial exchange between Westbrook and Moore: -------------- The Dallas deputy returned from his car and arrested Moore... for an "obstructed license plate!" In the video, Deputy Westbrook is clearly losing control of himself as well as flat-out breaking the law by demanding Moore hand over his camera. He slams Moore onto the hood of his cruiser (at which point, Moore turns towards his bike and it shows his plate clearly), yanks on Moore's helmet in an attempt to get it off him, and slams him into the backseat. It's frightening to see just how angry this lawman gets. (slam into back seat happens at 7:55 on video) Moore ended up spending eight hours in jail. His tape was turned over to the Gang Unit, but somehow, a local TV station got his video and put pressure on the department to review the case. There is now an internal investigation going on, and hopefully, Westbrook can pull some desk duty until he gets his anger issue dealt with. As for Moore, he should probably steer clear of large groups of little motorcycle terrorists and a certain Dallas deputy! http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981429375 And one rider, Chris Moore, was pulled over for no unlawful reason, but that the cop wanted to seize his helmet camera. The deputy, James Westbrook, wanted to the camera footage for evidence of other bikers in the group doing things unlawful, such as stunting. Moore's camera continued to roll through the eventual arrest, the raw footage attached above. After Moore asked why he was pulled over, Westbrook says: "The reason you‘re being pulled over is because I'm gonna take your camera and we're gonna use it as evidence of the crimes that have been committed by other bikers." Moore reacts, saying the deputy can't take his personal property. But once Moore hands over his license and registration, Westbrook makes an arrest due to Moore's "license plate being obstructed." http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/2012/motorcyclists-pulled-over-for-helmet-cam-arrested

1. An internal investigation! I'm sure that will do the trick!

Nice gig, being a cop. You and your buddies get to make the call on whether you and your buddies commited a crime, and if you say "lol nope," ain't shit anyone can do about it.

assume that you have no civil rights.
your only objective at that point is to not get arrested. you can be arrested for any whim or caprice the LEO can conjure up. Rule #1 - DO NOT LIP OFF TO THE LAW. if the LEO can determine any reason to escalate, he or she will escalate, they are trained to apply force to the public. comply, sort it out in court later. unless you like bonding out and paying tow fees. and having 5 - 48 hours taken away from you while you sit in the hoosegow. |
