DINO BLUEDOG Rep. Jim Matheson: Holder Should Be Held In CONTEMPT

Matheson is co-chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition, a conservative group of 25 Democrats in the House. He also is a member of the New Democrat Coalition.

WTF -

" Washington • Rep. Jim Matheson will vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for withholding documents pertaining to a failed Justice Department sting that let guns get into the hands of drug runners.

Matheson, D-Utah, announced his position Tuesday, joining House Republicans, such as Utah Reps. Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz, who have railed against Holder’s reaction to the congressional probe into the Justice Department’s "Fast and Furious" operation. One of the lost guns was later used in the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

"It just compounds the tragedy when both sides play politics instead of releasing the facts. The Terry family, the public and Congress deserve answers," Matheson said. "Sadly, it seems that it will take holding the attorney general in contempt to communicate that evasiveness is unacceptable." Most Democrats have stood behind Holder as has President Barack Obama who invoked his "executive privilege" to keep certain documents from House Republican investigators.

Holder’s defenders argue the House has received plenty of information about the failed program that ended in 2011 — more than 7,000 pages — and they consider the contempt vote a political move to embarrass the Obama administration. Chaffetz, a member of the Government Oversight and Reform Committee, has been an integral part of the investigation and he believes Holder has lied to the committee about what he knew about Fast and Furious and when he learned about it.

1. Matheson Is From Utah And He Is Mormon.....

don't know if this has to do with his stand on Holder. He's a Harvard grad. He sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

With friends like him - we don't need enemies.

Maybe he's lobbying for a seat on Rmoney's cabinet?

4. If Mitt were to become President, we would see more and more of this "brotherhood" in action.

You can't remove these guys from Congress because of their home base. Only Devine intervention can rescue us all from the likes of them.

3. Keep Burning Bridges...

The option in many blue dog districts is either a "conservative" Democrat or yet another teabagger rushpublican. Yep...you'll get CYA moments like this (that in the big picture mean nothing...Holder's going nowhere until after the election) but also you get someone who will vote with you 75% of the time vs. a flying monkey who will vote Grover's agenda.

The Democrats have a shot at retaking the House this year...and blue dogs will be part of that coalition...it's what makes the Democratic party diversified and strong. I'll leave the purity tests to the teabaggers, right now we need as many allies as possible to sent Boner to minority status. The most important vote is the one for Speaker and the more votes to elect Nancy Pelosi the better...and I don't care if they're blue, green, orange or checkerboard.

6. I Actually Agree With You - But Wouldn't It Be Nice To Replace These BlueDogs With Some.....

Progressive Dems? I know that this is probably impossible in a state like Utah - but we need to keep trying.

7. He worked hard to make sure Bush's Tax Cuts for the Rich got extended

Told Congress to be 'good boys and girls' and extend them. He was wildly active in pursuit of this and his specific advocacy for the richest of the rich was as Republican as it gets.

8. The true blue Dem's goals is to REMOVE any Third Way'ers and New Democrats

from infiltrating the party and pushing it further right-ward. I think we are at a point where we could just start a new left-oriented party and call the Democrat w/ the Third Way'ers a right-leaning atmosphere.

If the Democratic Party can finally kick them out and start moving hard to left-center or even just left, all will be well, and kicks in the New Deal II - We're Back, and We're Mad!
