(365 posts)Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers warned of the risks of inaugurating a president with[t]alents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity. Hamilton argued for the electoral college system in these terms: The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications. The electors have not just a right, but an obligation, not to vote for a candidate lacking such qualifications.

(9,112 posts)I feel he is going to be getting headaches he's never experienced before. The GOP will offer a deal to not impeach if he will resign. Tonight on Charlie Rose Robert Gates basically reaffirmed he is totally unqualified and how dangerous he is.
I think it's a good bet he's done by May Day.

Olbermann is right, our country and the world are in serious peril from this man, and his appointees, which I predict everyone will be approved.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis we came very close to a nuclear holocaust. There was a good number in the military at the time who were itching to do a first nuclear strike. Curtis E. Lemay was one of the generals pushing for that. Fortunately, we had a President who put the brakes on that. We do NOT have that safety value today. Not only do we have an unstable president, but a good number of republicans in Congress are just as dangerous.
This election was a disaster, and while we absolutely must resist, call and write our representatives, etc. The hard reality is that we are dependent on the sanity of enough republicans in Congress to stop this madness, and the odds are very much against us.
Some have been pointing to 2018 to take back the Senate. The odds are even worse that will occur:
Currently Democrats have 48 seats (including 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats), verses 51 republicans
In 2018 there will be 23 Democratic seats + 2 independents who caucus with the Senate Democrats up for grabs, and 8 republicans up for grabs.
The following states are in contention:
Arizonia
California
Connecticut
Delaware
Florida
Hawaii
Indiana
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Dakota
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virginia
Wisconsin

We have a very small window in order to have any chance to stop trump, and that is through the legal system, but once he starts appointing judges, that window is going to start to close
