2. Reagan would be one of those "moderate" Republicans

in today's media and today's world.

4. they just had to play it

differently back then. It's all the same elephant, just hanging on the different parts of it. They - and Reagan - have always been cutthroat. Now the gloves are off.

3. I hate that we help soften Reagan's image

by comparing him to today's republicans. He still deserves our scorn and derision.

5. Unfortunately

Immigrant labor - documented or not - made Reagan's policies - and the current economy - possible. Stagnant wages, disappearing social safety net, outsourcing, attacks on labor and social services ... the people doing the hard labor no one else will take... or working for bosses operating illegally... Reaganomics fed off the flood of people escaping what his policies did to South and Central America, Mexico... and they used it for PR to deflect attention from NAFTA. "Moderate," feh.

8. Yep.

Same reason Bush didn't make much of an effort to stop illegal immigration: cheap labor for our corporate overlords.
