anti-vaccine propaganda

Last edited Wed Jan 18, 2017, 02:55 PM - Edit history (1)

my niece just posted this and I need help "debunking" it. She has 2 small daughters and is refusing to vaccinate them. Just came across this - wanted to repost for future reference ...
"There is no science that shows vaccines cause Autism, except in these published studies which show vaccines cause Autism. She also had a TON of links trying to back up what she said and claimed them as research

1. Shortly, you will discover that anti-vax arguments are poorly

received here. Your wall of links does not convince, but it is sure to annoy people who actually understand what anti-vax groups are up to.

You might want to consider self-deleting this.

need every one of those links to ask your question. Sometimes people post on DU and say one thing, while their post says something very different. It's always risky to post lots and lots of information and links that would not be allowed to stay here, even if you include a disclaimer about "debunking."

11. The links were ones SHE posted and I deleted them from this post

I posted them because I was upset at what she is spreading and wanted help with "debunking" them. I, myself, have many medical issues and believe totally in the scientific community and I believe strongly in vaccinations. Please don't always assume the worst in people. I came to you for help. I took suggestion in removing the links and did so.

3. First she needs to learn

to read a scientific paper, second she needs to learn the difference between a paper and commentary and third she needs to learn that not all scientific papers are peer reviewed even if they are listed in pubmed.

Then show her this, it's written in plain English.

If she whines about all of her "papers" show her this.

I posted these and messaged her. I love her and don't want to argue but I hate that she is spreading this misinformation.

It's like pointing out the few scientists who deny climate change. Having all of them in one list doesn't make them a substantial number of people.

In a state on fire with the flu, has seen a resurgence of mumps, has had babies and elderly die of pertussis. I am on my way to work, to care for no doubt, another round "rule out'" (until they rule in) flu patients--many who are immunocompromised, some of whom will die and have no time to go through this. I can, however state with complete confidence there is nothing in those links that prove a goddamn thing about vaccines and autism. There is no there, there.

The scientific community consensus is that anti-vaxxers are mal-informed and full of shit.

My personal opinion is they are guilty of manslaughter every day.

Anti-vaxxers can go fuck themselves.

In edit--holy fuck--I just opened ONE at random and it was a "study" based on a goddamn on-line survey. Jesus.
