Breast cancer survivor wins the right to swim topless at Seattle pool

A Seattle breast cancer survivor who had a double mastectomy has won the right to swim topless in a local pool, according to The Stranger News newspaper.

Jodi Jaecks, 45, had done the proper thing and approached staff at the Seattle pool for permission to swim topless as she has no breasts. Her reason was a full swimsuit or top proved to be painful when used. Staff had no problem, but apparently the aquatics manager did and gave her the red light.

“If I called myself a man and walked into that pool they would have no problem with my body,”Jaecks said. “But if I am a woman who had breast cancer, with the exact same body, and I go in there, then it’s offensive and inappropriate.”

After all the publicity this week, Jaecks’s predicament caused a public outcry, and the city reversed its decision.

this weird obsession Americans have with the human body in general. Cases like this really point out the absurdity of the entire thing IMO.
