'Silence Not an Option': Calls Grow to Disrupt Trump InaugurationNadia Prupis
Common Dreams
The call to disrupt President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration is growing with the help of documentary filmmaker and activist Michael Moore, who on Wednesday tweeted a grassroots group's plans for direct actions on January 20, 2017.
Although Trump won the Electoral College, his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton took the popular vote by more than 2 millionwhich means Trump will enter office with low ratings and no mandate. Grassroots activists organizing a mobilization known as #DisruptJ20 are hoping to call attention to this dynamic through a series of protests, direct actions, and other events on inauguration day.
The organizers, known as the D.C. Counter-Inaugural Welcoming Committee, "call on all people of good conscience to join in disrupting the ceremonies. If Trump is to be inaugurated at all, let it happen behind closed doors, showing the true face of the security state Trump will preside over. It must be made clear to the whole world that the vast majority of people in the United States do not support his presidency or consent to his rule."

Post bogus directions to the inauguration online and on twitter?
Post the wrong time on twitter?

Post directions to the "best" restaurants in the city in the roughest parts of town?

(28,787 posts)i do think it will be portrayed that way in the media. gwbush's inauguration was accompanied by an absolutely huge protest and most people don't even know it happened.
i also think you will not be able to keep the people away. this is the sacred 1st amendment right in action.
i'll be in DC for the women's march the next day but hope to take my granddaughter sightseeing away from the crowds on the 20th.
last thought: i read that trump's team had been granted all the space around the inauguration to either permit protests or not. if that's true, i'm thinking it would be a "not." because they don't give a rat's ass about the constitution.

(4,178 posts)Wear black everywhere? Could there be a color of ribbon everyone would wear orca color of a banner or balloon we could tie to every tree?
Maybe something like purple for protest? Or would bright blue be better?
Maybe hats since it will be cold?
If we could organize an idea early enough we get a site that does custom merchandise to sell huge quantities?

(16 posts)On 1/20/17 we are planning to hang an American flag upside down. It is a distress signal. My country should be very distressed about Trumperius Nero's Triumph, sorry, inauguration.

(4,291 posts)1. Line Pennsylvania Avenue with women who will greet Drumpf with "pinky waves." Hell, for that matter, men can join in that allusion to his undersized appendage.
In fact, that might become a new tradition whenever he shows his mangled-apricot face in public. Everybody who isn't a brown-shirt gives him a pinky wave. Everywhere. Every time.
2. Borrow a technique from Mahatma Gandhi: declare January 20 a national day of prayer and fasting. For atheists and agnostics, it could mean a day of meditation and reflection. Of course, that mean nobody works that day, especially public servants (first-responders and hospital staff excluded). We wouldn't call it a general strike, but the effect would be the same.

I do not like upside down flags.
If we had a color ..blue? We could tie it on cars everywhere, and trees-and bushes and road signs , the message would get back to him and anger him.

(5,275 posts)I see the Gropenfuhrer's storm troopers have filed to keep demonstrations out of the usual places for a period of time before and after the installation.
Good luck with that, get ready to go to court. I will be there for the Women's March with a progressive friend and hopefully hundreds of thousands of gals will show up.
And stop Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio, quit legitimizing this far right racist/sexist/looney tunes takeover!
