Syria rebels lose all of northeast Aleppo: monitor

BEIRUT (AFP) -
Syrian rebels have lost all of the northern neighbourhoods of their stronghold in eastern Aleppo, a monitor said Monday, as the army pushed an offensive to retake the battered city.

The army captured the Sakhur, Haydariya and Sheikh Khodr neighbourhoods on Monday, while Kurdish forces took the Sheikh Fares district from rebels, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The battle for Aleppo is likely to be over before Trump becomes president.

but losing Aleppo to who? I'm really sorry, been off the news since the election. Is it Assad, or ISIS? or someone else i don't know about?

My former doctor came from Aleppo. At first his family was going to stay. The last time we met about a year ago, they had gotten out. Turkey primarily, but his brother had to leave his family to work in Dubai.

He said the ancient city was wonderful and is ruined.

ISIS is not involved in the battle for Aleppo. Eastern Aleppo is under control of the "moderate" Sunni rebels backed by the US, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States.
