GIANT BIRTH CONTROL COSTUME WILL FOLLOW ROMNEY ON CAMPAIGN TRAIL
GIANT BIRTH CONTROL COSTUME WILL FOLLOW ROMNEY ON CAMPAIGN TRAIL | Planned Parenthood’s action fund is sending a costumed package of birth control dubbed “Pillamina” out on the campaign trail to highlight Mitt Romney’s opposition to President Obama’s birth control coverage mandate. In a statement introducing Pillamina, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards noted that her organization wants to emphasize the fact that birth control is “an economic issue for women — period. That’s something that President Obama clearly understands, and that Mitt Romney simply doesn’t.” Image via Planned Parenthood:

1. yeaaah....the guy's sign on the left
|
Last edited Tue Jun 19, 2012, 06:11 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) really sends the wrong message. Afterall, it's not just the woman's responsiblity to avoid pregnancy.
He should shut up and buy condoms if he's that worried about becoming a father And I ONLY say that because it's NOT just the responsibility of the woman to avoid pregnancy. Every MAN should take an active role in making sure he doesn't become a father before he's ready and demanding a woman be responsible for it, is not the right message to send. |

5. So if you were there your sign would be "shut up and buy condoms" ?
|
I agree with you that the responsibility is shared (or should be) but this is a protest of the GOP having a double standard -- covering Viagra and not wanting to cover the pill.
Btw, easy to get condoms free. |

Nobody wants to see that, especially Mittens.

10. No. My comment has more to do with his sign
|
and the message that it conveys. Namely that it's the woman's responsibility that he not become a dad.

What if they are a monogamous couple who thinks condoms are annoying? Many women think it's more fun without a condom. I guess you just want to lecture people.

11. No one likes condoms
|
but, if he doesn't want to become a dad, he should take responsibility to make sure it doesn't happen. His sign, to me, says it's the woman's responsibilty to prevent him from becoming a father.
Not a good message when you have people who blame women for becoming pregnant with unwanted children in the first place |

12. He seems like a thoughtful considerate guy.
|
I bet they discussed their birth control options together as a couple and then chose the pill because it is more reliable and/or better.
Anyhoo the pill is what puts her in charge of her own reproduction, more or less. I'm rooting for a male birth control pill to give dudes more control over pregancy. |

Last edited Tue Jun 19, 2012, 07:25 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I just recall all the bad PSAs from HS, where the guy blames his GF for getting pregnant, as if he had no responsibility in the matter.
And, quite frankly, if I were a woman, I wouldn't trust a man who said he was on the pill |

13. I suppose you have a point.
|
For me, it's always been the unwritten rule that my boyfriend needs to trust me and that I have it all under control. But, do I have it all under control??
Maybe that is why some men get "snipped". I have a couple of (platonic) male friends who have been sterilized. It seemed extreme to me, but if I were in their shoes I might understand... In any case, I applaud the young man in the pink shirt for sticking up for his girlfriend, and women's access to BC. |

19. And there should be trust
|
but if his concern is not becoming a father, and the discussion hasn't been had with his partner or she doesn't have BC, it becomes HIS responsibility to make sure HE doesn't become a father.
I remember all the bad PSA's from the 80's where the guy's excuse was to blame the girl from getting pregnant. It's a shared responsibility |

21. My husband got a vasectomy
|
if you are married, don't want more/any kids, why shouldn't HE take control of the birth control? Why should the woman take contraceptives until menopause? Snip, snip, all done.
I, do however, appreciate a man demonstrating for the right to contraceptives for women, especially since MEN are the ones try to deny this to women. |

24. Of course!

But the guys with vasectomies whom I am thinking of both got theirs before 30, and neither was ever a father. That's cool with me. That is their decision, their choice.

He's just focused on the government leaving women alone. That's the issue there.

22. I think you are reading way too much into the sign
|
Nowhere does the sign say that birth control is the woman's responsibility, nor does it say he does not use condoms. Many couples use both condoms and the pill as the combination provides better protection than either option alone.

27. He doesn't want to be a dad, so his GF should have birth control
|
that's the way I read it. No responsibility for himself, all on the woman.
Maybe they do, I just think the sign is a little odd considering it IS a dual responsibility It's just my opinion |

Santorum and the rest of the clown car forced him to take this ridiculous birth control position during the primaries, and now he looks like an idiot. How horrible it must feel to have no idea what you stand for and having to make it up as you go along.

We could use that for a lot of stuff. "Keep your Mitts off Medicare!" "Keep your Mitts off Social Security!" "Keep your Mitts off the middle class!" Oh, we're gonna have fun with this.
