Fake news story says pizzeria is the center of child abuse ring led by Hillary Clinton, John Podesta

This is insanity.

WASHINGTON — Days before the presidential election, James Alefantis, owner of a local pizza restaurant called Comet Ping Pong, noticed an unusual spike in the number of his Instagram followers.

Within hours, menacing messages like “we’re on to you” began appearing in his Instagram feed. In the ensuing days, hundreds of death threats — one read “I will kill you personally” — started arriving via texts, Facebook and Twitter. All of them alleged something that made Mr. Alefantis’s jaw drop: that Comet Ping Pong was the home base of a child abuse ring led by Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief, John D. Podesta.

When Mr. Alefantis discovered that his employees were getting similar abusive messages, he looked online to unravel the accusations. He found dozens of made-up articles about Mrs. Clinton kidnapping, molesting and trafficking children in the restaurant’s back rooms. The articles appeared on Facebook and on websites such as The New Nationalist and The Vigilant Citizen, with one headline blaring: “Pizzagate: How 4Chan Uncovered the Sick World of Washington’s Occult Elite.”

None of it was true. While Mr. Alefantis has some prominent Democratic friends in Washington and was a supporter of Mrs. Clinton, he has never met her, does not sell or abuse children, and is not being investigated by law enforcement for any of these claims. He and his 40 employees had unwittingly become real people caught in the middle of a storm of fake news.

In Georgia, a story was was being passed along as "news" that Hillary Clinton contracted HIV from Bill Clinton, who contracted HIV from Magic Johnson. That's why Bill looks "so sick" and Hillary was having "all those health issues". And, yes, the people said they got the "news" from Facebook.

My sister who lives in Georgia called me up with that one. She heard people talking about it.

You get to the point you don't know what to say because the stupid is so horrendous you go tharn for a few seconds.

consequences, the more ardently and aggressively the BAD conservatives I'm acquainted with are justifying their own decisions. They need these lies. What you want to bet many of the calls to the Gestapo to come pick up neighbors were part of this syndrome? Somewhere in the backs of those minds, where they can't be examined, are doubt and fear of guilt.

empty living room is of limited value.

I was just reading that Liberty U is split between ardent Trumpsters who agree with its president Jerry Falwell, Jr., and people who, you know, actually try to follow the word of God. None are tenured, and the latter know beyond doubt that speaking up will get them fired. Wait and hope for a chance to make a difference in the largest Christian university in the nation or make a little individual statement now, like a rock plopping in a pond and disappearing, and go get a job selling insurance?

But, yes, I agree. While they stay, they are part of something evil. Wonder how many ministerial jobs are opening up as church boards realize they have to replace trumpster ministers. And how many more church boards are dissolving in civil war?

Or for those who attend school there, and as I am atheist, I have even less sympathy for anyone having an conflict of conscience over Trump. It's cut and dried for me. You either live your principles or you don't.

I'm not trying to be confrontational with this, I just don't see the conflict for anyone - Trump, and JF jr, for that matter, are both horrible people. Any support of either is support for all the wrongs they both do.

Please understand, I'm not trying to offend. I just don't think this is a hard choice.

some students and teachers at Liberty reject Trump with great conviction and are horrified by the behaviors of people they once believed were good, obedient Christians. The conflict isn't internal, it's between factions.

I'm not a person of faith myself, but to wrest our nation back from the evil-doers, both areligious and religious, I'll be more than glad of all the people on my side I can find. And notably welcome, given the power of religion, will be those carrying Bibles and reminding all of the tenets of their religion, the Satan's demons some are sure are active among us, and the danger of spending eternity in a lake of fire.

Hopefully fear may still deter some of the trumpsters who have failed all religious, moral, and ethical trials to date.

Just beyond sick that people go for this stuff.

‘Pizzagate’ shows how fake news hurts real people

By Editorial Board

November 25 at 6:06 PM

SOME OF the people can be fooled all of the time, and some seem plenty pleased about it when it gives them license to exercise their most malicious impulses. How else to explain the noxious torrent of vitriol, venom and threats trained recently against a popular upper Northwest Washington pizzeria, which has been the subject of ludicrous conspiracy theories alleging that it is the center of a child - abuse racket run by Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta?

The allegations against Comet Ping Pong, reported by the New York Times, are absurd on their face and detached from any gossamer thread of fact. They took root in the dark crevices of the Web and took flight thanks to social media platforms, whose witless “who, us?” posture in the face of misinformation and outright lunacy is a civic embarrassment.

The republicans have been peddling the lie of the "liberal media" since Reagan and Nixon and they can't keep getting away with this. I think it starts with us getting Breitbart and Infowars booted from iTunes, Twitter and Youtube. They should not be allowed to get away with their white supremacy and fake news on such public forums, and I think we need to make all advertisers aware of what they're sponsoring.
