Environmental activists ‘being killed at rate of two a week’
By Jonathan Watts, The Guardian
Monday, June 18, 2012 23:58 EDT The struggle for the world’s remaining natural resources is becoming more murderous, according to a new report that reveals that environmental activists were killed at the rate of more than two a week in 2011. The death toll of campaigners, community leaders and journalists involved in the protection of forests, rivers and land has risen dramatically in the past three years, said Global Witness. Brazil – the host of the Rio+20 conference on sustainable development – has the worst record for danger in a decade that has seen the deaths of more than 737 defenders, said the briefing, which was released on the eve of the high-level segment of the Earth Summit. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/06/18/environmental-activists-being-killed-at-rate-of-two-a-week/

2. Environmentalists, like all liberal, labor and human rights campaigners are almost always murdered.

We're approaching an critical point where the capitalist system of growth by those who feel entitled to abuse others for wealth and power, or even pleasure, will not be sustainable. All the corporate fake movements to save the planet are shams. We will have to stop this or keep riding on the death train. Where many of us will meet a bad end. We need to the lovers of life on this planet now more than ever.

3. It is now more risky on this planet to be an environmentalist than it is to be a soldier.

6. Eventually there will be little left to save and greed will have won as
|
earth becomes one more scorched mass in orbit with no life left.
Then the greed at any cost party can be so damn proud of their accomplished mission, to have wrecked earth. Frankly, often, I think interplanetary intervention is about all that is going to save this place, and I doubt that's going to happen. |
