Pete Burns, the singer behind the dark new wave band Dead or Alive, has died of cardiac arrest, according to a statement released by his family and management. He was 57.
Burns rose to prominence with the 1980s pop hit "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) and became a staple of '80s pop fashion. His androgynous approach to clothing and outsized fashion statements helped influence Boy George and a generation of gender-flexible pop acts.
Born in Cheshire, England, to a turbulent home life, Burns turned to pop music at a young age, starting his first band while working at a Liverpool record store before founding Dead or Alive.
He later returned to the spotlight as a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother, and released his last single, Never Marry an Icon in 2010. He married partner Michael Simpson after divorcing his wife, Lynn Corlett, in 2006.

I always feel very bad for people who have excessive plastic surgeries performed. My heart goes out to them.

(2,061 posts)Went to meatspin (purely for research purposes) and the original is gone but the mirrors live on. Nothing about the death of Pete Burns sadly enough.
Current count 10,000 and climbing!
Sad that he was driven to so many surgeries and fifty seven is way too young.

(6,613 posts)But I wouldn't call Dead or Alive's music "dark." No darker than, say, The Pet Shop Boys. When you say "dark New Wave," I think of The Cult.

So brave, to be so unique. So sad that he had to suffer so for it, creating yourself as an ongoing work of art.

His right to do to his face whatever he wanted, but it's a pity he didn't realize how lovely his natural face was.
