The MOB of Rice University sticks it to Baylor U over sexual assault scandal

Rice Marching Band References Baylor Sexual Assault Scandal During Halftime Show

The hardest hit during Friday night's Baylor vs. Rice contest may not have taken place between players.

In a halftime performance that somewhat strayed from conventional football game entertainment, the Marching Owl Band made reference to the rival Texas team's recent sexual assault scandal, forming an "IX" representing Title IX and a star symbolizing the university's former president, Ken Starr.

Among those in the visitors' section, where the band displayed the images, was former head coach Art Briles—fired in relation to the incident.

According to SB Nation's Jason Kirk, the Bears fans didn't receive the message well, booing in response.

I always thought it was Mighty Owl Band. Oh well. They really do put on the most clever halftime shows, and even perform witty routines during parades.

However, as a marching band judge I will say that the diagonals in their IX formation were horrible and they didn't really complete a five pointed star either if you watch the video.

I watch the video twice, but the sound cut out on me.

There were five people on the field away from the IX running around. Do you know what that was about?

they just kind of run around until they are roughly in position. The "marching" is part of the gag-I think

They cracked me up in the 1970s making fun of SMU's "Brest Dressed Band in the Land" by "marching" onto the field in Scuba suits, clown costumes, bikinis, tuxedos and all types of various other Halloween like costumes. They are a tad irreverent-but usually take some pretty good shots when deserved

years ago they were almost attacked by the entire Aggy Corp of Cadets for marching in formation of a Fire Hydrant to poke fun of Aggy mascot Reveille (a Shetland Collie). They've poked fun of every school in old SWC

Like it's an invitation to piss on them.

to do their usual cheer where they spelled out SMU after a Touchdown. You know according to Aggy Kyle Field is a "War Memorial" and only Aggy Yell Leaders dressed like Milk Men are allowed on hallowed ground. This is the type of thought pattern that spawned Rick Perry and Louie Gohmert

I wonder how many of them have had a sense of "belonging" at another time in their lives. My guess would be fewer, not more, for the radical ones.

My dad worked in the treasury department for over 20 years. It used to be you didn't even have to be a Rice student to try out for the MOB.
