http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/02/mitt-romneys-ford-field-fumble/
DETROIT – Standing on the 30-yard line of Detroit’s Ford Field, Mitt Romney delivered what was billed as a major economic speech before a crowd of about 1,200 supporters on Friday. In his crucial home state of Michigan, Romney reiterated his new tax plan to applause from an audience dwarfed by the scope of the stadium that seats up to 80,000 spectators. ..."I guess we had a hard time finding a large enough place to meet and this certainly is.” |

There is another shot that is even more visual ~
I did a post at DU a while ago that addresses this same issue..... By goclark in April...... Clip: This is what I've been noticing for a while. I've noticed --- when ever they show a Teabag Rally / The Rethug Primary "Debates" or even Romney now ~ there are not many people there. Media rarely interviews actual people in the audience. Media seems to focus on Sarah and Michelle and the other nuts that are clueless. Media is careful to not zoom in for Rethugs. Rarely do you see Rethugs act like they care about the size of the rallies, it doesn't seem to matter to them. Where are the faces of excited people standing behind ANY Rethug when they address their "devoted" followers? What you see are " clueless faces. Many of those "FACES" IMO are paid to be there. Where are all the outstretched hands of those attending the Rallies/Debates -- outstretched like for Obama, Biden, Hillary? |

They voted for that twit Bush, and for that senile old Reagan, and for that dipshit McCain. |
But the address they gave to rendezvous was for the local shopping center, so I suspect it was about as impressive as the event in the top picture (only sunnier). I thought about walking over there, but it seemed like that would have been given the thing more credit than it's worth.
Even John McCain was supposed to appear at the town baseball field in 2008, until he got scared away by a forecast of snow that never materialized. Mitt doesn't even seem to rate that. |

Even aside from the protests though -- WaWa is a chain of mini-marts. Not even restaurants or mom-and-pop groceries but mini-marts. Midnight munchies, hoagies slapped together by bored high school kids, and lottery tickets. And this is the backbone of a campaign tour?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014145489 QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — Mitt Romney on Saturday tried to refocus on middle-class economic issues as his bus tour wound through Pennsylvania – though Democrats pushed the likely Republican presidential nominee off of his original itinerary. Romney rerouted his tour after former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and several other Democratic officials held a press conference outside the Wawa gas station where the former Massachusetts governor had planned an early afternoon stop. Protestors gathered outside the store. So Romney decided to visit a different Wawa store instead. |

49. Oh, and the story turns out to be even funnier
|
The address MoveOn sent was inaccurate -- it's where there used to be a Wawa but isn't any more. Romney's actual intended stop, the one where there were too many protesters, was at a Wawa across from the Pennsylvania Turnpike exit a couple of miles outside of town.
So he wasn't actually planning to go to Quakertown. He just meant to get off the turnpike, meet a few supporters at a mini-mart, and then get back on the turnpike again. Way to get in touch with the American heartland, Mitt! But when that didn't work, his bus had to actually take to the local roads and drive three miles, just so he could have his meatball sandwich photo op. What a laugh. |
