(Note: Winter Springs priest. This is just the icing on the cake when it comes to corrupt community leaders in this city.)
Gerald Shriner, 46, spent the last month talking online to someone he thought was a child, deputies say. He was arrested Friday when he went to meet that child for sex, deputies say.
Shriner is a teacher at The Geneva School, a Christian school on State Road 436 in Winter Park, and an Episcopalian priest assisting at New Covenant Anglican Church in Winter Springs and the father of two minors.
Ginette Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said in a release Shriner first contacted an OCSO detective he thought was a child on May 17, and after a month of email exchanges, planned to meet for sex in Winter Springs.
He was arrested at 9:30 a.m., and The Geneva School administration and the Department of Children and Families were notified of his arrest.

(13,081 posts)On the one hand, this guy is creepy as hell and does not need to be anywhere near children.
On the other hand, he didn't have sex with a minor, nor was there ever a minor in danger. It's purely a thought crime. It's like arresting someone for plotting the assassination of the president of Narnia.

(62,444 posts)So, if "Winter Springs" is not immediately recognizable, the first clue is "Orange County" some paragraphs down, which places the story in either California or Florida. That dilemma is only resolved in reading the URL at the bottom, which is to the Orlando Sentinel. However, since newspapers report stories from all over, it's still something of a piece of detective work to figure out the riddle of "Where did this happen?"

(46,699 posts)Winter Park is in Orange County, Florida
Winter Springs is in Seminole County. Same county where the Trayvon situation takes place. It's also the same City where the Ponzi Schemer lived who was just sentenced to a multiple number of years. A lot of shady things take place in Winter Springs, in my opinion, because of the style of government. It is what I believe to be a model where Republicans will eventually take this country. Government is overtaken by a business sector through organizations like the Rotary Club in the nineties and the Chamber currently. And when they get involved in something BIG that blows up, lawyers are generally involved, making it near impossible for the victims to find recourse through normal channels. MHO.

That's why I generally ignore people from Montgomery County, Jefferson County, Orange County, and a bunch of others.

(4 posts)Yes - it is a private school.
Accused? Yes. Cover-up at Geneva? I do not know. Cover-up at his *former* church? Yes.
