(17,199 posts)and led to many family members of the Central Park 5 being subjected to death threats, racial slurs, discrimination.
The Central Park 5 were found guilty in court.
But, in 2002 it was found they were innocent:
In 2002, after Salaam had served seven years in prison, Matias Reyes, a violent serial rapist and murderer already serving life inside, came forward and confessed to the Central Park rape. He stated that he had acted by himself. A re-examination of DNA evidence proved it was his semen alone found on Meilis body, and just before Christmas that year, the convictions against each member of the Central Park Five were vacated by New Yorks supreme court.

(17,199 posts)I'm so pissed. The media has been derelict in not covering the incident and confronting Trump on his past.
Trump is asking African-Americans what they have to lose if they vote for him.
This story answers that question: Your Life!

(17,199 posts)Salaam, who said he had been scarred for life by his experiences in prison, also felt insulted. But it was the announcement last June that Trump had finally decided to run for president that was, in a way, more alarming.
To see that he has not changed his position of being a hateful person, to see that he has not changed his position of inciting people, to see that hes still the same person and in many ways he has perfected his sense of being that number-one inciter, you know, I was scared, Salaam said.
-snip-
I thought for a moment: What would this country look like with Donald Trump as being a president? Thats a scary thing, Salaam said. Thats a very scary thing.

(17,199 posts)Had this been the 1950s, that sick type of justice that they wanted somebody from that darker place of society would have most certainly came to our homes, dragged us from our beds and hung us from trees in Central Park. It would have been similar to what they did to Emmett Till, Salaam said.

This what is what Trump and his supporters mean by "taking the country back." Back to the '50s!

(17,199 posts)I wish the media would cover the incident and ask Trump if he has any "regrets" about the fear and racial hatred he stirred up back then.

THAT'S the thing that stands out the most and i wish the fucked up media would bring it up.

(17,199 posts)The media has failed to cover the story of how he stirred up fear and racial animus in 1989. They have failed to confront Trump on his past.
And here he is, day after day, asking African-Americans, "What the hell do you have to lose voting for me?"
