Is anybody even talking about that stupid failed Supercommittee anymore?

No, they aren't.

We went through the motions of it because it had to be done to get the debt ceiling raised. Then it failed, and now people have moved on.

Our side won the debt ceiling fight and I'm not even sure that we know it.

1. Nope, that would require admitting that it wasn't the apocalypse.

Nor was it part of a massive conspiracy on Obama's part to destroy Social Security. Just like the last five times that's been shown to be completely full of shit. So the panic-mongers will just quietly drop it and pretend it never happened, while they move on to the next excuse for panic-mongering.

It's always lurking in the shadows. The latest ploy is the so-called payroll tax holiday, that will shorten the funding horizon for Social Security benefits, now 25 years or so away. While the nitwits in Congress can barely think past the weekend on most of their planning, they will leap at the "news" that the funding horizon for full benefits has inched closer because of the tax holiday. Zounds! Something Will Have To Be Done.

The fact that there's even a fight over the debt ceiling is every bit as appalling as celebrating "winning" the debt ceiling fight. It isn't over; it's barely begun.

...tantamount to spending without limits. We DO need to work on getting our budget more in balance but not at the expense of ordinary people.

As long as Republicans want to give everything away to the rich, we will be saddled with trying to make up for the neglect of the needy by pushing for more social spending.

We need to recognize that giving the store away to corporations does not help the country as a whole.
