I was very actively involved in the John Kerry Campaign, both as a veteran and strong Democrat.
My seriously deep yet very appropriate crush on President Obama started in July, 2004, when he totally distracted me and many others from some intense fun, food and drink at a local Genesee County Democratic Party Convention Watching Party. He started speaking and the entire room, full of wonderful, dedicated, fun loving and some slightly drunk Democrats came to a sudden and silent stop, and stood mesmerized by the young man speaking. We all commented, that night, that we felt pretty damn sure we were looking at a future President. We would have been shocked if we had known how soon in the future.
He has never let me down. He has always had my back. I trust him with my life and will always love and admire Barack Hussein Obama. And if he needs me for anything, any time, all he has to do is call, and I'll be there.

(53,339 posts)President Obama's convention speech this week was masterful, as was the First Lady's.
And you and I have a lot in common as vets actively involved in working for Kerry's campaign. This vet was a kerrytraveler.

(69,806 posts)i rode the bus with the members of the cook county black nurses assoc. they had many stories about the days of him hauling the girls around to meetings in church basements.
when he ran for senate, many of his colleagues in springfield gave him a warm hand up with some amazing words of praise and acts of loyalty and hard work.
when he was a us senator, a friend of mine was involved in trying to extradite a criminal from another country. both senators worked all the levers, but barack obama also administered many of those famous hugs and helped in other ways.
yup. he is the real deal.
i hope he stays in public life, tho i hope he can do it in a way that michelle approves of. (sorry scotus fans. michelle is not gonna spend the rest of her life in dc.)
