GOP trusts Hispanic voters won't be offended by Trump's immigration rhetoric

The Republican Party said Tuesday that issues of immigration, a key part of Donald Trump's rhetoric, are complex and delicate, and trusted that Latino voters will not feel offended by what was said at the party's convention, where on Monday some very bad examples of immigrants were brought up.

In general terms, Hispanics weren't spoken of badly, according to Helen Aguirre Ferre, head of the Republican National Committee for Hispanic media, although, she told a press conference on Tuesday, the day's speeches showed how complex the subject of immigration really is.

"Immigration is a difficult, delicate subject. The presentations weren't anti-immigrant, they were just trying to talk about immigration in a complete, intelligent and straightforward manner," Aguirre said, and underscored her basic point that "they sometimes don't obey the laws but nobody was out to offend Hispanics."

Latino And Immigration Groups React To Nominee Trump: The Pivot Is Dead
A speech that many Republicans saw as darker than ever before, was seen even worse by Latino and immigration groups, including conservatives who said Trump doubled down on demonizing immigrants.

CLEVELAND — Donald Trump and his policies are well-known at this point — but what Latino and immigrant groups did not know was exactly how it would feel to see Trump espousing the same policies targeting undocumented immigrants on the stage as the Republican nominee.
They found out quickly, during a speech many Republicans described as dark, and Latino organizations found to be chilling and a sign that the recurring idea of a general election policy pivot is dead.

“He started his campaign a year ago with Mexicans as rapists — he starts his general election campaign with undocumented immigrants as murderers,” said Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice and veteran of immigration legislative battles. “Pure hate and racism.”

Sharry was referring to Monday’s convention speakers who talked about a family member being killed by an undocumented immigrant, which Trump revisited in his speech.

“Nearly 180,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records, ordered deported from our country, are tonight roaming free to threaten peaceful citizens,” Trump said, during a speech where he often yelled his lines despite having a microphone

Many Latinos activists found themselves hit with the reality of Trump as Republican nominee and were fearful of the vision he portrayed of America, one they said was of demonizing the other and demagoguery of immigrants.

That once Blacks were no longer the largest minority in the USA, the GOP would pivot to turn it's hate against the 'current largest minority group'. It just seems that the GOP needs to hate someone 'different' than their core.

I had the opportunity to listen to a large portion of Mr. Trump's speech last night - and I wondered, how many people are aware that he is calling for war. I was wondering if someone would question him, on when the USA would reinstate the draft - cause now, we are not talking about the little leagues (IRAQ) anymore.

I wondered why no one questioned him - on how he would define his role as president (or rather should I say dictator).

I wonder does he realize that if he truly pisses off China - then not only will his butt pucker, but all of ours will - sadly, they own large portions of our ass.

I wonder - much as he tries to blame the current POTUS for the divide in the nation - how does he plan to put the hate back in the bottle, win or lose?

And finally, in taking America back to a place that most of us would like to forget - how does he plan to accomplish such a task, most of the people on the outside would probably not walk into an internment camp, regardless of how great that would make America.

But finally, maybe that is why the NRA representative spoke at the GOP convention - because maybe if the Haters win - they plan to do a lot of business, to all our regrets.

but why is that sign half in English, half in Spanish? "Hispanics para Trump."

"Hispanic" is an English word. Wouldn't a proper sign with "para" (for) read: "Hispanos para Trump" or "Hispánicos para Trump"?

10. The "para" is a mistranslation as well. It should read "Hispanos por Trump".
