Absolutely devastating proof that Melania Trump's speech tonight was lifted word for word from Michele Obama's great 2008 introductory speech.
They've now got the video up of side by side comparisons with Melania mouthing Michelle's words.
This will be THE story that chases everything else off of the frontpage in tomorrow's news cycle.
What an unmitigated, monumental train wreck.

(15,445 posts)The whole purpose of a national party's convention is to INTRODUCE the candidate to the rest of the nation, i.e. the middle of the electorate to be found between the two bases.
Melania Trump, the potential FLOTUS, has been introduced as a liar and a plagarist.

(135,425 posts)The ONLY story is Melania, all dickie-dooed up her lovely white dress, reading a speech delivered by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Now, we know one big thing: Mrs. Trump is a PLAGIARIST. Either that, or a LIAR. She said she wrote the speech herself; so if someone else wrote it for her, she's simply a big fibber. Pick one!!!
This IS the story for tomorrow.

(3,469 posts)That's going to hurt more than the plagiarism. They keep showing the two speeches together and Michelle is warm and emotive while Melania is stiff, cold and unemotional. I watched the Stepford Wives the other night and the robots had more warmth.

(14,530 posts)Crown jewel of the republican convention was Michelle Obama's speech.
A speech the republicans ripped apart 8 years ago. But loved tonight.
Mrs. Trump is on record saying she wrote the speech "with as little help as possible" I think she needs to send Michelle Obama a check for her help.

(10,857 posts)And is was a terrible night after that, too, worse even, with terrible speeches and a deflated, disinterested crowd.
It started with an incompetent and autocratic election-theft. Speakers were laughing at the bullshit they had to say, the ancient crowd bugged out early, there were lines and imagery lifted straight out of Triumph of the Will, the stage itself turned red whenever black people were speaking, and I swear General Flynn counted Canada among our enemies.
And the Benghazi Bros.
And the group picture of five thousand hateful white people, with the cameraman failing to set up before everyone was told to stand stock still, like a frozen bag of snake venom.
A total, comedic train-wreck, The Producers come to life. Someone is gonna get ri-i-i-i-ch writing the comedy screenplay of it, someday, if America survives this.

(81,220 posts)OMG! We switched over from MSNBC to see if they had it and they were indeed starting to cover it. It was Don Lemon and a colleague with a panel of talking heads. It was a fuck-up but the blame was going to the speechwriters.
I kept mumbling about the clip with Matt Lauer interviewing her and Donald that I'd seen way earlier, when they'd arrived before her speech. He asked her if she'd been practicing her speech and she said she'd just looked over it, and added "because I wrote it, with as little help as possible." And I kept mumbling "she said she wrote it!"
Well, they talked about it and showed the clips of the Michelle Obama speech and Melania's - um - excerpts. And speechwriters messed up and on and on. And then somebody brought up that she'd talked with Matt Lauer beforehand, and "show the clip." And BANG! "...because I wrote it, with as little help as possible." End of clip, cue the talent.
And they cut back to Don Lemon and his colleague sitting there side-by-side, and it was BEE-YOO-TEE-FULL!!! There they sat, facing the camera, mute. They sat there for two or three beats, staring blankly at the camera, with nothing to say. Finally one of them broke their frozen silence and quipped something like "the only thing I have to say about that at this point is "no comment'."
I almost fell down laughing! Those blank stares! Sheer caught-with-their-pants-down blank stares. They had no idea what to say. Their blank expressions told you everything! Textbook deer-in-the-headlights! PRICELESS!!!
Welcome to the big leagues, Melania.
Edited to correct her quote so it's exact.

There is currently a Law suit filed in New York against Mr. Trump for the Rape of a 13 year old girl...
Why The New Child Rape Case Filed Against Donald Trump Should Not Be Ignored
In covering a story, a media outlet is not finding guilt. It is simply reporting the news that a lawsuit has been filed against Mr. Trump, and ideally putting the complaint in context. Unproven allegations are just that - unproven, and should be identified that way. (Mr. Trumps lawyer says the charges are categorically untrue, completely fabricated and politically motivated.) Proof comes later, at trial. But the November election will come well before any trial. And while Mr. Trump is presumed innocent, we are permitted - no, we are obligated to analyze the cases viability now.

Moonwalk
(2,322 posts)...yes, most of them are on the clown car for the full ride and don't care that it's heading for a crash. BUT...a lot of people (voters) will gravitate towards candidates that seem "powerful"--like being part of the group that mocks rather than gets mocked.
I really doubt that the Democrats are going to let this go during their convention. It's going to come up again and again--as well as anything else they can mock. And when that happens some voters will bail out of the car. They'll do the old Peter denying Jesus thrice thing: "Me? With Trump? No way! I'd never vote for him...."
That said, as pampered as this poor woman is, I have to feel bad about her. She's riding shotgun where ever Trump wants to go, and if that means she reads the speech they give her and pretends she wrote it. Whether or not she's happy with this ride, she's stuck in the car and has to do what she's told. And read the speeches they give her. And say she wrote them.
