Men apologize for outbursts in courtroom (CO)

Ronn Tice, 56, and his father, Paul Tice, 81, who are linked to the so-called “sovereign citizen” movement, were both convicted of burglary, trespass and other crimes on April 15 after four-day jury trials. They were arrested Wednesday after they fled their sentencing hearing before Mesa County District Court Judge Richard Gurley, saying that they were not U.S. citizens and that the U.S. was a corporation that had defaulted.

Ronn Tice said Thursday in court that after “having a little bit of spare time to analyze” the situation, “I have to admit that ADD and a little bit of arrogance” influenced his courtroom behavior.

“It was not my intention to be in contempt of court,” he said.

Defense attorney Stephan Schweissing, who appeared with Paul Tice, said the older man also apologized ...

Upon reflection, Mr. Tice acknowledged the authority of the court even though they don't recognize the authority of the court.

Interestingly, the judge released the defendants (on bond) even though they don't recognize the United States Government.

There's so much logic there. Now I get it.
