(34,582 posts)I had grade school grandchildren at the time- it hit me hard. Then, I have a gay sister who moved about an hour from Orlando about 4 months ago. It was conceivable that she could have been there. I was sweating it until she returned my call and said she wasn't.
This old vietnan vet has no and I mean NO guns. i have no problem with a person having a gun but I do have a problem with just anyone having weapons of war as many of the more popular guns of today are. I've been on both ends of those weapons of war and full well know what they're developed and designed for.

(14,570 posts)But we have a real problem here that to my mind stems from the creation of the right wing propaganda machine. Stock speculators have made millions on gun and ammunition stocks because of propaganda outlets such as Fox 'news' and hate-talk radio. Millions of Americans have been brainwashed to hate and mistrust virtually everyone, not want to help others and pretend they are rodeo cowboys who 'pull themselves up by their own bootstraps' on a daily basis.
So, when announcers on Fox or AM radio lie about how, 'Obama's gonna take away ur gunz,' these brainwashed people go out first thing and buy an AK 47. The NRA is against any form of background checks, no matter how reasonable, using the 'slippery slope' argument that if we impose a background check on gun shows or online, then we're on the way to 'the gummint takin our gunz!'
This is a case where the immorality of capitalism and the profit motive is clear for all to see. Stark against the blood of the slain.
