Donald Trump pulled the ‘fake lawyer’ routine to The Onion after satirical outlet skewered him

Scott Dikkers, a founding editor of The Onion, wasn’t surprised to read reports claiming that Donald Trump pretended to be his own publicist on phone calls with reporters.

“Trump wrote an email to The Onion a couple of years ago, well his ‘attorney,’ but I question that now because of the John Miller/John Barron thing,” Dikkers told us, referring to reports that Trump has in the past pretended to be his own publicist in phone calls with newspaper and magazine reporters. “He wrote a letter after the Onion wrote a story that made fun of him, and you look at that letter now, and it uses some of Trump’s favorite words like ‘disgusting’ and ‘disgraceful’ and ‘you owe an apology to Mr. Trump,’ so I’m thinking now his ‘attorney’ did not write that.”

Trump's spokeswoman did not respond to our request for comment.

"i think he's going to win,” Dikkers said. “I don't think there's any doubt. I know the electoral map looks challenging to him, but you've seen the polls. Trump keeps going up, Hillary keeps going down and we saw how Trump laid waste to all these other professional politicians. Trump transcends the typical politician strategies and rhetoric because he's appealing to people's lizard brains and the lizard brain doesn't care about facts. It doesn't care what’s true. It doesn't care what’s reasonable. It’s just going to vote, ‘Trump — he's strong,’ and that's what we’ve got and that's what's going to happen. I hope I'm wrong.”

I wondered at the time if Trump wrote it himself and got some loony doctor to sign off on it.

It was another piece of absurdity that nobody cared about.

The lizard brain comment is right on. Clearly none of his supporters are using their cerebral cortex.
